The Fabric of the Cosmos (2011)
Fantastic! Incredible special effects!
I just finished watching the series on Amazon Prime. It was very interesting and entertaining. Brian Greene does a great job explaining complex ideas in simple terms. All the scientists interviews and stories were great. The special effects are incredible. Not only were the special effects cool but they helped greatly in explaining the ideas--amazing! He makes learning physics fun and exciting. You will be a better person if you watch this.
American Horror Story (2011)
Scariest show ever!
This is the scariest show I have ever seen! Do not watch it alone at night. Just absolutely horrifying and disturbing. What makes it even scarier is many of the murders are based on true stories. I rarely get scared when watching anything on TV but this was crazy scary. Season 1 is fantastic. The acting was amazing especially Jessica Lange. I had to keep reminding myself that she is just an actress and this is not real because she was that good. But everyone was amazing and the writing, plot, special effects, scenery, all the characters were just horrifyingly good. Ugh, so bizarre. I only gave it 9 stars because it is too scary for most people to watch. I just finished watching the second season. I almost didn't watch it because the first season was too scary but it had a happy ending in the final episode and that propelled me to watch the second season. I did not think the second season was as scary as the first. Seeing the same actors in different roles took the edge off. Also, psychopathic psychiatrists, nuns and priests while all too real aren't as scary as ghosts. Once again though the stories, plots, scenery, special effects and above all else the acting was terrific. It also has a somewhat happy ending. I just watched season three. It was the least scary but the most entertaining because of the mix of horror, gore, humor, quirkiness. The acting was amazing but this time there were quirky characters especially Myrtle. Every episode was fantastic.Just finished the fourth season and it was also fantastic! The plots, dialogue, characters, scenery were all fantastic. The Freaks are real people. They were great and you really feel sorry for them. Evan Peters and the guy who played Dandy were especially outstanding. The ending was great and somewhat happy. If each season didn't end somewhat happy I don't think I could continue watching it. It is just too intense. This was least scariest season so far but very entertaining and certainly had its fair share of horror, gore and shocking moments. Finished season 5: Hotel. Another great season. Amazing acting as usual, especially Denis O'hare and Evan Peters. The stories go into the psychological makeup and motivations of each character more than previous seasons. Plenty of horror and gore but not the scariest season. On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being the scariest, season 1 is a 10, season 2 is a 9.5 and season 3,4, and 5 are 8.Season 6: Roanoke started off a little slow with the show about a show but by episode 6 it was terrifying. Some of it reminded me of the TV commercial where they say, "why do people do dumb things in scary movies." In this case the TV trailer is 1/2 mile from the haunted house and the actors are given cell phones only for the camera and the phone portion is disabled LOL. But when it was all over another great season. How the same actors can play such different roles every season with such perfection is amazing! Just finished season 7--Cult. Another great season. Not as scary as the others. I would give it a 6 on the scare factor rating scale. Humorous satire regarding the last Presidential election mixed with the usual horror and gore but hardly any ghosts. How Evan Peters and Sarah Paulson did not win emmys for their work on all the seasons is stupifying. The emmy's must be all old people who only give out awards to old people. I thought the ending was great but I like a happy ending even in a horror story. Done with Season 8--Apocalypse and it was the least scariest of all season. I would give it a 5 on the scare scale. The story and the anti-Christ were a little absurd. But overall, still entertaining and worth watching.
Atlas Shrugged: Part I (2011)
Definitely worth watching!
I just watched all three parts and thought it was pretty good. It has been a long time since I read Ayn Rand's books The Fountainhead, Atlas Shrugged and the Virtue of Selfishness but I thought the books were good and the movies were fairly true to the books. There is no way you could appreciate the movies without reading the books. My understanding of her philosophy is personal achievement and responsibility for your own welfare and happiness is paramount to living your life altruistically and for the good of society. When the government or religion or whatever institution suppresses human's ability and motivation to achieve greatness, because of selfish reasons that will also help society, then we are all doomed to a mediocre or worse existence. Her book the Virtue of Selfishness (read in college) clearly puts forth her ideas of selfishness and capitalism as being good for society and unselfishness and socialism as being bad. I thought it certainly got the premise of the book and Ayn Rand's philosophy. I thought the scenery and sets were great. Even though the actors who played the main characters were different in all the movies, I thought they all did a great job. This movie might not be perfect but it certainly was entertaining and had a lot of good points whether you agree or disagree with Rand's philosophy.
True Blood (2008)
Fangalicious! Fangtastic! Fangtasy at its best!
I just finished watching every episode. I wish I knew of this series when it came out. It is funny, dramatic, suspenseful, sexy and just plain fun. The acting is amazing! The plots, writing, drama, humor, romance, costumes, sets, scenery, special effects, cliff hangars of every episode are great! If you have a sense of humor and are creative you will like this show.
The Escort (2015)
Fantastic!
I just saw this movie on Amazon Prime and it is great! It is funny, witty, poignant, dramatic, and touching all rolled up into a completely entertaining movie. The actors, especially the leads, do a fantastic job! This is one of the most under-rated films out there.
