Do better Hollywood. I tried, but it's truly awful.
27 January 2023
I'm usually wary of internet nerds bombing reviews with 1-3 ratings just for the sake of it and more often than not these movies are actually better than the negative would you have believe. Now I believe there's a reverse trend happening, where people just rate a movie a 8-10 just out of spite / to counter that trend. However, for this movie, you cannot convince me you actually this is worthy of a 8, let alone a 10. The reason I give it a 1 is because there's just a vibe of actings mailing it in for a movie they know was just never going to be good.

Jennifer Lopez tries a bit at the beginning, but it's not enough as soon she also cannot help herself to get caught up in the sad reality that this is a cringeworthy bad movie. Script is bad, premise is a bit silly and there's no chemistry between any characters. It honestly feels like an Adam Sandler excretion that he will try to convince you was made with passion and one of his best ones yet. I can look past a bad script and even some bad acting if it's funny or the action is good, but has neither. I didn't laugh once during the first 40 minutes. I won't even bother describing the action. Do better Hollywood!

What did I just fall asleep to?
3 December 2021
Not a Venom fan, so first one didn't really like but better than expected. I can be quite forgiving but what was going on here was just odd. Acting was okay, but it was just all over the place. Story not fully fleshed out, underwhelming use of Shriek and her powers, the mystery wasn't there at all. It tried to be funny so badly it backfired. Whoever wrote this and signed off on it need to be fired. If Andy Serkis had any say in the silliness of the apartment scenes then his career behind the scenes will be shortlived.

Insult to my intelligence and fans of DC!
17 September 2021
Now I get what Scorsese was talking about. Both this movie and the previous movie are an insult to anyone's intelligence and quite frankly made to mock fans of DC / Marvel movies. I truly believe whoever's behind this is laughing his ass off how many people paid to watch this garbage.

Wanted to like it, but couldn't look past big issues.

Warning: Spoilers
Space Jam - A New Legacy - 4/10 - Very meh, but it was somewhat entertaining, probably more so for the kids. There were little nods to the original - yes it is a sequel and the first movie did happen - which was kinda cool. I thought they might act like the original never happened, but they acknowledge it in several ways. Some surprise appearances were funny, like Michael B. Jordan and the original monstars in the crowd, but wasn't a fan of a similar intro about Lebron's life. Should've done something new. It felt at times as a worse reboot of the original, but if you see it as just a movie on its own then it did have its moments.

I liked the reverse of the original where Lebron was a cartoon in their world as opposed to the original where they made the Looney's more human / 3D like. The morale of the story is good, the story itself not that much, but the original also had a silly setup. Don Cheadle tried his best, but lacked the villainous traits to sell his character. Lebron is probably the worst in terms of acting, which I expected, so that's another reason I like the cartoon. Unfortunately this changes for the game itself and the Goon Squad didn't look good or cool in my opinion. Dame Times was probably the worst scene of the movie. The biggest issues I had with it aside from Cheadle and Lebron are: the lack of certain Looney Tunes, lack of side stars and the basketball game.

Let's start with the game, which didn't feel like a basketball game but just lots of gimmicks and fast paced scenes to show off animation. This ties in with the lack of Looney Tunes, as WB showed off a lot their own films and characters, which I didn't really have much of a problem with since the Looney Tunes still had a big part of this film. A common critique I disagree with is that the Looney Tunes don't play a big part, which was my worry, but that's not the case at all. There is however a lack of certain characters to shine, in my opinion Speedy Gonzales - voiced by Fluffy Gabriel Iglesias - should've gotten way more lines and while's he really tiny, him not appearing for long stretches was odd. The back and forth between Tweety and Sylvester lacked as well and Taz would've thrived in the craziness of the game, but they didn't capitalize on his 'talent'. Side stars in terms of people appearing as themselves or comedians to make it funny, like the original, was lacking. A certain NBA legend in terms of broadcasting making a significant appearance was cool though. That is another reason I would've loved more Speedy since Fluffy's lines are definitely the funniest of the movies.

All in all, for children probably entertaining enough, but Lebron lacked MJ's charisma to really make this memorable, the Looney Tunes had their moments but could've been better, casting was a bit of a disappointment and the basketball players as the Goon Squad barely left a mark. Glad I was able to download it and not waste a few hours going to the theatre. Since I'm not a fan of WB and given how poor some of their own characters looked, it did feel a bit cheap to make all these references to their own products. The message of the movie was good even if poorly executed due to bad acting, but I managed to sit through it, so a 4 is in some ways very forgiving. Looney Tunes saved it from being a 2 or even a 1.

Terrible acting and corny script
28 October 2020
One of the worst comedies I've seen in recent years. Malin Akerman is only one who is acting okay, somewhat believable, but that's where it ends. Christine Taylor who cannot talk due to plastic surgery or whatever, so forced. Then the main actress who plays Abby is just annoying AF. I only watched it because Wanda Sykes among others is in this, but unfortunately movies with a lot of known actors is usually a recipe for non-success in comedies. Rarely does it work out. This one is a serious cash grab for most of them I'm sure. It's just odd, from the cringeworthy drunk life lesson to a child to the weird sexual innuendo, gestures and lines. This seems to be written by a stoned teenager. Someone gets his nipple sucked was awkward, but probably the funniest moment, that should tell you everything you need to know.

Cheap movie with nonsensical cussing, sex jokes, but some laughs
5 April 2020
I don't know why Ed Helms keeps getting casted, he's not funny and keeps playing the exact same character over and over again. I liked the mother in the movie, she was no-nonsense stereotypical African-American woman who didn't take any crap. Along with her moments there were of course some good jokes and crazy over the top scenes and lines that made me laugh. Overall though, it's a been there and done that.

Solid, but too long and not worth the hype
30 November 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Not your standard mob movie, but a very isolated one. DeNiro is the main guy and he does an excellent job, however the story goes too much into Hoffa's side for my liking. It doesn't feel like we are really in a mob setting aside from a few scenes here and there. Pacino does a solid job, when he's angry and better than his recent work but he's a bit done. Joe Pesci did a very good job as the silent but deadly made man, though it's noticeable he hasn't done anything recently. I know it's based on a book, but a little more action and feeling for the world they live in wouldn't have hurt. Not once did you feel DeNiro or Pesci actions had repercussions or that they would be in serious danger. No real rivalries. It was a bit too much like reading a book, some scenes / parts dragged on for too long with all the conversation. Kind of ironic given Scorsese going off on Marvel, maybe he should have focused on this movie. It's solid, but not a masterpiece by any standard. The actors cary this movie, not the production nor the writing nor the soundtrack. I really think people who give this a 8-10 are just excited Pesci, Pacino and DeNiro are finally in a movie after so many years. This is not going to be like other classic mob movies and it's a shame with all the hype leading up to it. Cannot help but feel underwhelmed.

Odd experience: not enough drama nor humour
22 October 2019
I like the concept and Paul Rudd is the perfect candidate for this, but it fails to deliver. I am not sure what the director and writer were going for here aside from making it a weird experience for all. The music choice and presence is annoying, it's the cheapest way to convey a feeling of awkwardness. There are other ways to do this for example through voice, an act itself, scenery which can be supported by music to highlight the oddity of it all. Now it feels forced, not in the least because the drama doesn't feel real enough and very little presence of humour. Couple this with the short length of episodes - especially given the long intro which presents another POV of some parts of the previous episode - and clear attempt at trying something different with some camera angles and shots that add nothing to the whole, and you have a flawed execution. To me it feels the director and or writers are either just odd balls who wanted to do something different or got stuck between choosing a clear direction: humour or drama. Now it's really neither and just feels like a concept stuck in limbo, giving the viewer an odd experience.
