Paul Dood's Deadly Lunch Break (2021)
A future cult film
The thing that drew me to this quirky film was the name Nick Gillespie, he was DOP on the brilliant series Trigger Point and he wrote & directed this. Admittedly you probably have to have a very twisted sense of humour to enjoy every juicy detail but it's absolutely hilarious from start to end credits. Although it's not a big budget outing, it's beautifully shot and edited throughout and the acting was superb.
Do yourself a favour and take time out to watch this gem, you will not be disappointed.
The Very Excellent Mr. Dundee (2020)
Toe-curlingly weak
I like Paul Hogan.
This is really not a great film.
I will say the audio and video quality are outstanding, I just wish the script and acting was.
The whole production looks like a vehicle to trundle out some ageing actors for one last time and that is a little disturbing.
After Life (2019)
A work of art
Whatever NetFlix is paying Gervais it's worth every penny.
I have a love/hate relationship with Ricky as I just didn't get The Office or most of his standup shows but his hosting of several award shows made me take a second look at his work.
Loved the way he took on the Hollywood Glitterazi and that led me to After Life.
I was moved.
I cried.
I laughed.
Make no mistake this genius piece of film making is a rollercoaster of emotions that will affect everyone who sees it on some level.
You get drawn into the narrative and begin to feel his pain, his joy, his heartache.
The characters are engaging, the dialogue superbly crafted and the production values are simply on another level.
You can tell Gervais poured his heart & soul into this and it shows.
