The Many Saints of Newark (2021)
Would've worked better as a miniseries
If you're a fan of The Sopranos, don't expect the same caliber from Many Saints. I wanted better from a series that gave us so many great moments. Not Oscar worthy cinema, but just...better. An hour into the film and I realized I had no idea what the plot was or if there even was one. Loosely it's about Dickie Moltisanti trying to weigh out his evil by doing acts of kindness, kind of. I don't know. Trying to cram these characters and nostalgia into a thin two hour film just ultimately made it feel empty. Think Gotti, the Travolta one. Better casting and a mini series would've made more sense. Maybe each episode Dickie could come closer to morality, and by the end he believes he's absolved and his clarity leaves him vulnerable to his assassination. Whatever. The shark has been jumped.
What If...?: What If... Doctor Strange Lost His Heart Instead of His Hands? (2021)
THIS IS WHAT WE WANT
In my opinion, the What If...? Animated series has been below average so far. Nothing particularly interesting with some decent animation. But now "Dr Strange Lost His Heart Instead of His Hands" really set the bar in terms of my expectations for this series. This is the level I was hoping they'd be going for right from the first episode. It was emotional, powerful, and the animation was thoughtful.
Child's Play (2019)
Pointless...
Skeptical from the initial trailers, skipped it in theaters, finally rented it for .99...and I still should have known better. The writing is atrocious, as some of these actors deserved a better script for how they managed to carry this dumpster fire. The film could have been a lot more fun if it had been self deprecating, instead it stumbles through a convoluted plot and ultimately implodes on itself. Cheap sets, cheesy kills, bad dialogue, lame reboot.
