Ukraine on Fire (2016)
Nobody is innocent
This insightful documentary starts off with info about the demography and politics of Ukraine, which really helps to give you a greater understanding of the things to come. The details of the Euromaidan protest are analyzed in great detail. The dirty secrets of the American government are also revealed here, but it doesn't mean Russia is innocent; every single country is fighting for their own good with rapacious actions. This documentary serves to me as a reminder that everything in life is grey, and that nothing is black and white, good and evil.
Ran (1985)
Chaos
Ran stands for chaos and disorder. We are truly a chaotic species, one that is also barbaric and cruel. Kurosawa Akira and his team put these primal instincts on full display in this beautiful film. The high budget did help bring it all to the next level. Ran is based on a story so dramatic and Shakespearean yet so prevalent in real history-three brothers and the king father who doggedly clings to his throne still. The many strikingly memorable shots will surely leave you stunned; and the last shot is simply haunting. Words can only do so much, so do pick up a 4K copy of this film if you can; it is a positively breathtaking to experience Ran.
Barry Lyndon (1975)
The most elegant and exquisite film ever
The genius Stanley Kubrick has truly outdone himself by crafting this masterpiece. After viewing A Space Odyssey, I thought there were no films more beautiful, but the breathtaking painting-like scenes of Barry Lyndon paired with music exquisitely chosen by Kubrick are simply stunning. There are some who may say that this film is too long or stale, but I say, that this film must be savoured slowly, and that one must enjoy it for what it is, which is almost like a series of ethereal paintings, one after another. Watch this film not for the end, but watch it and live with the fact that every scene is a part of the whole, and that the wholeness and oneness in itself is beautiful. Say, if we only watched movies for the ending, then composers who only wrote finales would be the greatest. All you must do is to simply sit down and relax, then, nothing else except absolute enchantment can possibly follow.
Midsommar (2019)
Horrible throughout
Let me just say this. This movie has extremely horrible and slow build up that took way too long. The climax wasn't even in any sense of the word SCARY. Most parts were more disgusting and disturbing than scary to me. Some parts are outright nasty and gross. Very boring movie, watch at your own risk.
