Wuthering Heights (1992)
A terrible adaptation, don't waste your time
Wuthering Heights is my all-time favorite book. Several people recommended this movie to me saying it closely followed the book. I came to this website to read further reviews and was happy to find almost all of them good. Last night i watched it for the first time and was completely disappointed. Not only is the story rushed to the point that makes it difficult to understand, but they totally ruined the characters for me. Heathliff is my favorite character in all of literature and to have him portrayed as such a quiet and reserved sap completely threw me. And why in the world does Cathy giggle all the time? And considering almost every other sentence in the book ends with an exclamation point i was extremely angry when through some of the most passionate scenes the actors were practically whispering to each other. The movie gave no real explanation of the true intenseness of Heathcliff and Cathy's relationship and frankly i can't understand why anyone could be sad after watching this movie. Honestly, i was happy when they both died. I would definitely not recommend this movie to any true fan of the book. And anyone who has never read the book should skip the movie before it ruins the story for them.
Memoirs of a Geisha (2005)
Book or Movie?
I read the book, and after hearing the bad reviews was scared about seeing the movie. I was afraid they had butchered another good book by making it too Hollywood. Fortuantely that's not how it was. Though the movie does seem to rush through the story line very rapidly, i found it entertaining. The visuals are absolutely beautiful. The acting was not exactly what i hoped for, but i was so mesmerized by the colors and the scenery that i was content. If you're seeing this movie strictly for the acting and the story telling, then you make be disappointed. However, if you can take the movie for the beautiful art that it is, then you will probably be able to enjoy it. I know that i personally enjoyed it, and would watch it again. But for anyone who just wants to know the story, i would suggest reading the book, which was very good and much more insightful.
King Arthur (2004)
not as bad as all that
even though this film received bad reviews and has been said to be unhistorical, i enjoyed it. i don't particularly care if it was historical considering i don't believe anything certain is known about King Arthur. it's true that the makers of this movie took a lot of creative license, but if you look at this as just an ordinary movie, i think it is quite good. the acting was decent, though not the best possible. however, if you just try to enjoy this movie for just a movie, i liked it very much. but i wish they had given Tristan a bigger role, he was way too cool (and too hot) to stand in the background all the time.
Alexander (2004)
What was Oliver Stone thinking?
Oliver Stone absolutely sabotaged the story of Alexander the Great. anyone who knows anything about Alexander cannot help but be completely disgusted by this movie. Oliver Stone made Alexander out to be very different than he really was. my recommendation for anyone who is interested in Alexander the Great is, don't see this movie, or if you already have, then block out everything you saw because none of it is worth remembering. and for anyone who thinks this movie was an accurate portrayal of Alexander, they really need to read a few books and do their research. if Alexander could see this movie i think he would be appalled and Oliver Stone would not live long enough to talk about it.
