Wish Dragon (2021)
A really great family movie that everyone can enjoy
I was pleasantly surprised by the high quality of the movie. It is on par with Disney/Pixar movies and one could argue that the attention to cultural detail is even better.
The plot is missing a few puzzle pieces but it's nothing that ruins the experience as a whole. A lot of people compare this to Aladin and I guess they are not wrong. But this movie is still very unique and have its own style, mainly focusing on the comedy but still very emotional and with a great ending that wraps everything up. In my opinion, good or even decent endings are a rarity today.
It's a must watch for everyone and suits perfectly as a family movie.
Love and Monsters (2020)
Perfect balance of simplicity and depth in a story
Fascinating world that has obvious inspirations from other post apocalyptic content. With a little weak side on the actual motive of the story, the movie as a whole was quite intriguing and had some nice mix of scenes.
Urban Legend (1998)
Didn't age well, and probably cringy even back then
Low quality plot with a lot of focus on the mystery plot twist in the end. I didn't shiver or jump even once.
Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga (2020)
I was overly surprised - one of the best I've seen in a long time
My first impression was that it would be just another Will Farell cheese movie that would be average with some laughs and a blind story - but boy was I wrong.
Not only is the songs in the movie really good but the movie consists of all the important elements of a great movie. Some silly funny scene, a plot that actually makes you feel with the characters, a bit of drama and ofcourse an great actors.
I don't want to spoil any of the movie so do yourself a favor and watch it.
The Maus (2017)
Terrible and cringeworthy
First of all congratulations to the camera crew and their new camera setup. They sure overused the exposure effects and focus blur. Jokes aside the characters are uninteresting and annoying. The scenes are poorly thought out. In the middle of the movie you literally spend 1.5 minutes watching a guy standing in a dark room with a gun constantly turning and shooting into the abyss.
I rarely think bad of movies and often am forgiving for bad acting and mediocre plots but this was pure pain to watch.
Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island (1998)
Best Scooby Doo movie - the childhood memories!
Short review as it was some time since I saw it so I cant remember the details but what I remember is that this was such a step up from the regular shortfilms/series. Amazing art and animations and the plot was from what I remember quite intriguing for the younger me. I bet I would still enjoy the movie as a parent watching with their child.
Be aware though, some scenes can be quite graphicly terrifying for a younger child. Its not the regular sheets ghosts but actually mutated zombies. Also "Its terror time again" - a song played in the middle of the movie is one of the most memorable parts in the movie.
El hoyo (2019)
A proving movie that falls short in the unresolved ending
The mystery and concept of the movie really pulls you in and thrills your curiousity. Plenty of questions will circle around in your head and the constant change of events keep satisfying your belief and interest in the plot and backstory.
What makes the movie fall short is the many unanswered questions.
- spoilers start here -
Im one of those who gets intrested in the 'lore' and wants to get the whole spectrum so in my best world the end would be more climatic but i would prefer to have a bolder movie with even more focus of just the pit if this was the intent. The final product were somewhere in between and it doesnt work out for me. Its a shame!
The Circle (2020)
Amazing series. A reality show done right.
There is little negative i have to say about this series. I rarely find interest in tv series and shows - especially these kinds of shows that are a similar to the big brother and paradise hotel setup - but boy was i glued to the sofa for this one. Really exciting, you got to know the characters and actually cared for them in a way that even AAA movies miss out on nowadays. What i didnt like is how the end was quite too sudden although i get how the compexity of the setup would have made a longer show even harder. I just wish they could ve done it differently. Same with the final vote. But these minor disapointments were compensated by a very suprising and satisfactory final episode.
I really look forward to a season 2!!
Tall Girl (2019)
Surprisingly good for what it is
Before my actual review, I dont actually understand all the negativty around this movie. Yes there are some querks and yes the film plot is very unrealistic framing swedes as a pretty silly stereotype. Being a swede myself I can easily see through how the movie producers really did not care for researching how to make a character and actor appear swedish - i mean even non swedish speaker must admit that his accent sounds more german than any nordic language.
Anyway, all these issues aside, I genuinly enjoyed the movie. Being of a genre thats supposed to be a bit silly and shamy, you have to be the right type of person to understand it and i think im one of those. Dont take it too seriously and give it a shot.
