Juste une question d'amour (2000)
among the best coming out stories, but sadly, with g rated sex
this great story, so simply told, and acted graciously by the ensemble, caused me to try to remember what it was like when i came out in the 60's to my lovers, and the 70's to my family. which person was i most like - laurent, so afraid to cause harm; or cedric, self assured, basking in science and freedom. cedric's mom, emma, is one great earth mother character, with provoking lines, serious demeanor, finely crafted delivery. you want all the ensemble in your life, which is rare in a film, i think. you feel what they are going through. i loved the roommate/girlfriend who has some great lines as a clear eyed feminist-human being(thank you Christian faure). i need to look for everything stephan guerin tillie (playing cedric) has done- this is one to watch.
The Da Vinci Code (2006)
heartfelt rendition of novel
good read, great movie experience. only mismatch, i think, was when the bishop fell shot- his suitcase was closed; and then in the next scene, the bonds are loosed, and the briefcase sprung.
audrey tautou was scintillating. i fantasized that tom's character would be the next male in line. the moment tom and audrey realize- is fabulous movie making- my hair stood up and i was breathless- even though i had read the book- seeing it was incredible.
the moment her grandmother introduces herself brought an interesting question to me- would i have allowed my grandchild to be taken from me- i think not. ever. that's biologic imperative to protect your seed, your self expression of god's gift, in a new time. i am my grandfather now, the time is now, and always will be. i think your child is the most precious thing on earth.
i gave it a nine, which is rare for me to give to an American movie.
