The Magicians: The Balls (2020)
Nix the Musicals
Even the characters involved in the musical numbers mention how terrible they are. I prefer the show over the books, but these showtune episodes make me reconsider.
Star Trek: Discovery: Su'Kal (2020)
Great actors trying to work with a terrible scripts
This episode gives the viewer the long awaited explanation for the burn. Unfortunately, the writers of this season have done so with little respect for the viewer.
The confusion starts with the transport of the away team into the holographic environment housing the survivor of the ill fated expedition into new sources of dilithium. Two human characters are made non human to avoid potential trauma to the inhabitant, while the character potentially most familiar to the inhabitant, a Kelpian, is made human... Why? Saru then mentions his heels are touching the ground (he's normally digitgrade) with no explanation as to how a holodeck could do this, or why. The inconsistencies continue, ultimately with the explanation the inhabitant has mutated in the womb of his Kelpian mothertto have some convenient metaphysical connection to dilithium itself, which not only rendered him immune to the non-dilithium related radiation, but a psychic connection that renders his emotional state to destabilize dilithium everywhere in the galaxy. Basically, his temper tantrums literally caused "The Birn" and eliminated the lives of potentially trillions of lives, in every quadrant of the galaxy, while prompting the downfall of its greatest institutions, including the United Federation of Planets. Long range communication works when its convenient to plot development, it doesn't when it's not. Federation ships continue to operate humanitarian missions, while failing to check in on outposts and bases for literally generations.
I feel like such a sloppy continuity belongs in the Kelvin time-line, where at least Abrams' over devoted ego explains the poor writing choices.
