Inside No. 9: The Understudy (2014)
Good episode but ...
Almost completely ruined by an atrocious attempt at an Australian accent. Everybody responsible for letting that abomination go to air needs an urgent hearing test. If the creators were dead set on making the character Australian then hire an Australian actor, it's not like there's any shortage of them in England.
Zack Snyder's Justice League (2021)
Mediocre at best.
First up, I have not seen the Whedon theatrical version, so this is an honest appraisal of the film on its own merits, not a comparison.
Way too long! You could easily cut at least an hour out of this without forgoing the backstories that were apparently absent from the original cut. Do we really need a 10 min slo-mo scene of Lois getting coffee???
Some cool action scenes, but they're too few & far between at a 4 hr runtime.
Establishes several inconsistencies with the Aquaman film, which could have been easily fixed with some ADR & editing.
Why did Superman attack the others on his return? Why does he don the black suit? Why does Snyder think it's more important to show Diana & Alfred making tea than to include a brief scene explaining these points.
Generic villains who just want to destroy the world. Any significant Thanos-like motivation? Nah, they're just evil.
If you're a Snyder fan-boy you'll love this 4 hr extravaganza of self-indulgence. If not, you're time is probably better spent elsewhere.
Fate: The Winx Saga (2021)
Really not good.
I had no prior knowledge of the history or context of this show prior to viewing and watching it with that objectivity it's just... bad. Derivative storyline told via terrible dialogue delivered by worse acting. Everything about it seems entirely contrived & unnatural. I can only assume the positive reviews were written by childhood fans of the cartoon who are experiencing a sense of nostalgia combined with a giddy thrill of (badly forced) "adult" content & language. If you don't fall into that category, don't bother with this show.
Cobra Kai (2018)
S1 great, S2 terrible
After a season of well-written complex characters it was so disappointing to see this show devolve into one-dimensional high-school soap opera in the second season. The final fight scene, in addition to having zero emotional lead-up or pay-off, was a complete mess, with choreography so bad I thought I was watching Glee. Such a pity they didn't just leave it at one perfect season
