That '80s Show (2002)
Not Like It's Predecessor
I haven't seen a whole lot of this show, but I've seen enough to know it never should have been aired. Fox seemed to be trying to get a quick buck from a less-than-mediocre excuse for television. After the success of That 70s Show, Fox should have had the sense to realize it wouldn't work to do it for every single decade. It tried to copy That 70s Show, but didn't have the heart or the character. It's no wonder it only lasted half a season. They tried, but it was a miserable, miserable failure. I love That 70s Show, but this doesn't even come close to living up to half of it's predecessor. The idiot who came up with this should be completely ashamed. DON'T WATCH.
That '70s Show (1998)
Why I Love That 70s Show
That '70s Show is probably my favorite television show of all time. I've been a huge fan since I was six years old. It's different from most other sitcoms, all it's characters are likable, and it has episodes that are actually original ideas, instead of recycling some of those extremely overused story lines other shows have. While the characters aren't exactly good role models and the story lines don't always teach a good lesson, there's always laughs and every episodes leaves you with a feeling of contentment and happiness. Then again, it's realistic, because unlike many shows, not every episode (or even season) has a happy ending. That '70s Show is obviously first and foremost a comedy, but it also throws in elements of drama to even it out. Real life isn't always funny or serious, but a mixture of both, and this show gives the best of both worlds. The characters all have their assets and failings, and they all have the things that make them funny, the things that make them annoying, and the things that make us love them. While this show deals with the good parts of life, such as holidays, birthdays, dating, and friendship, it also deals with life's negatives. It touches on heartbreak, parental abandonment, friendship problems, and relationship issues. This is a truly great show, because of the characters, the stories, the realism, and the way it makes you feel. Sure, it underhandedly (and possibly accidentally) supports drugs, alcohol, and underage sex, but the show is amazing and full of heart. As a teenager, I feel I can relate to a lot of the situations, much more then I could when I was six, and these characters honestly are awesome. It's a great show, so watch it!
High School Musical (2006)
just admit it. . .
tons of people say they hate it, and they might, but everyone, and i do mean everyone, loves this movie somewhere inside. it's everyone's guilty pleasure, no matter who you are. the plot may have loopholes, the acting may be bad, the songs may be annoying, but admit it: YOU LOVE HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL. i love it too, so don't feel bad. although it could have been a major flop, you know that high school musical is probably one of your favorites. don't deny it; embrace it. many people say it's annoying, and it can be, but they don't mean it. it's one of the most loved movies ever, if everyone would just admit they love it. i love this movie!
because we all love high school musical deep in our hearts!
Mean Girls (2004)
teenage classic
whether you like the movie or not, no one can deny that mean girls changed the teenage world. just about every teenager in the world, or at least America, has seen this movie. some found it mean and didn't like it, but this movie changed the world. it's a classic. not because it's particularly wonderful or artistic or it's a masterpiece, but because it completely portrayed the teenage world accurately. i look at myself and my friends, and we are those kids. we live those lives. lives of backstabbing, boyfriend stealing, bitchiness, sabotage, and hatefulness. mean girls is a movie, but it may as well be a documentary. any teenage girl who cannot relate to mean girls in any way is not living a normal teenage life. mean girls changed the way the world thinks of teenagers, whether it's for the better or not. simply the most amazing teenage movie ever made. it may not be a true classic, but it's a classic within it's own rights. this movie touched a place deep in my heart that i didn't recognize before mean girls came along: the part of me that is a true teenager. it may not be for the better, but this movie changed my life and the life of many around me. simply amazing.
The Day After Tomorrow (2004)
An Amazing Movie!
The Day After Tomorrow, simply, is a great movie. Great acting, great plot, awesome special effects, keeps you on the edge of your seat, and, of course, Jake Gyllenhaal. There is really nothing negative to say about the movie. You may need to watch it a few times in order to fully understand it, if you are at a young age, but it's definitely very captivating, especially the first time you see it. The movie also has some educational value. A lot of the facts about the earth's climate are untrue, as was done on purpose, but if you watch the movie enough you will learn something. Also, I found it quite a good statement, in this day and age, that they had Americans crossing the border into Mexico. I feel this promotes good feelings towards Mexicans, even if it is only a movie. On the topic of the acting, Dennis Quaid was very convincing as a busy, somewhat obsessed father who doesn't have much time for his children. Jake Gyllenhaal and Emmy Rossum were brilliant as two high school students, and all the supporting roles in the film were done stupendously as well. Another good thing about the movie was that it had a lot of variety. There were funny moments, mostly in the beginning of the movie, there were sad moments, when people died, there were lots of suspenseful moments, and there were moments that were close to terrifying. The special effects in the movie were done amazingly well, and the plot was rock solid. Admittedly, I saw the movie for Jake Gyllenhaal, but I ended up loving the whole thing! If you haven't already, definitely see The Day After Tomorrow, and if you have, good choice!
The O.C. (2003)
Sort of went downhill...
The first season of The OC seemed promising. It was convincing, mostly realistic, the plots were captivating, and the characters were wonderfully three dimensional. I was excited for season's 2 and 3, and I hoped the show would last for a long time. It seemed like it would, and I was confident that I would be an avid viewer. After the first season, I would have rated this show a 10/10.
Then came season 2. I was excited and happy for the season, but it let me down immensely. Although the characters were still good, the show lost it's realism and it became much less convincing. Season's 2 and 3 were definitely not up to the first season's standard. A shooting? Kirsten's drinking problem? Rehab? Caleb's death? The whole thing was just so unconvincing and unrealistic. And then, to top it off, they decided to kill Marissa in a car crash! The first season drama was real, but this was just too much to believe.
Therefore, I give this show a 6/10. The 6 points were for it's remarkable first season, the loss of 4 points for it's downhill crash. So overall, what started out a good show turned out to be just okay.
The Hills (2006)
Already Addicted!
After seeing only one episode of The Hills, I am already counting down the days until the next episode. The new MTV show seems promising, and it has already brought a cliffhanger. Personally, I liked Kristin better on Laguna Beach, but it really seems like Lauren is making something with her life. It's nice to see the rich girl do something worthwhile. Of course, I'm not sure how the show will turn out to be, but so far I love it! The Hills seems like a promising sequel to the awesome show, Laguna Beach. Laguna was my favorite show, and I think that The Hills will do it proud! Can't wait to see! If you haven't already, tune into The Hills next week, you won't regret it!
Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County (2004)
The best show ever
Wow. This show completely amazes me. By far the best, most realistic, most interesting show I've ever seen. Laguna Beach is judged by some as shallow, scripted, and over-dramatic, but I completely disagree. Although some aspects of the show may seem scripted, it's not. Because the show is "The REAL Orange County." In other words, everything that happened on the show, really happened. I was sad when season 1 ended, and ecstatic when season 2 began. Now that season 2 has ended and all the characters from seasons 1 and 2 have graduated, the show is probably ended. However, fans such as myself have The Hills to look forward to.
Laguna was always able to keep viewers interested. A friend of mine stated, "Once you've seen one episode, you're addicted." It's true; one episode of Laguna Beach and you become an addict to the show. It far out-does the OC, because it is realistic and not over-done.
All the Laguna Beach cast members have individual personalities. Over the two seasons, it's almost like you get to know the cast as if they are your own friends and classmates. You get to like and dislike all of the cast, and you get to realize what makes them tick. When you watch Laguna Beach and really get into it, you can almost feel like their your friends, like you live in their world. It's convincing and realistic, yet as captivating as fiction, a hard thing to come by.
All in all, an amazing and wonderful show. I give it ten stars for being interesting, level and keeping the audience watching. If you don't already, definitely turn on a Laguna DVD or one of those MTV marathon's. It won't let you down!
Little Manhattan (2005)
Just Way Too Cute!
All in all: this movie was just way too cute! The two kids were absolutely adorable, the plot line was cute, and the way the scenes were done was also way cute. Definitely the best movie of the year and the cutest movie i've ever seen! The ending was absolutely wonderful. It was kind of heartbreaking, yet kind of heartwarming. It really makes you think about love in a whole knew way; that you don't have to be older to understand what love is. The actors performances were very believable for young children, and the ending with the parents was, although a tad unbelievable, a nice set off. One happy ending, one open ending. But actually, i liked the open ending with Gabe and Rosemary. In so many movies, they give you an ending to go by, and there's no room for imagination. This movie ended in a way where you could judge the ending on your own. Overall; 10 out of 10. Great movie! Check it out if you haven't yet!
