WARNING! Don´t read if you didn´t see the movie yet!
At first I have to say that I didn´t see the original movie yet (shame on me!) but I don´t consider this to be important for this review. As I´m a Tim Burton-Fan, I had to watch the new "Planet of the Apes" - and I liked it.
It is a great movie, full of fantastic pictures - the great comic-style, which I love Tim Burton for. The soundtrack is perfect, the special effects are great and , what is the most important: the story is very entertaining and full of suspense.
Of course, as many of you did, you could ask many logical questions as: - Why are there horses on the planet? - Why are there different races? - How is it possible for a few humans and two apes to ride through a complete camp of aggressive apes? - Why does the chimp land exactly at the moment when Leo is about to lose his fight? - How is it possible for a small spaceship, to fly from the planet of the apes back to the earth? And why does it only take three minutes? - Why does Estella Warren wear lipstick? - Why is the earth full of apes at the end?
I read many questions like this, and of course there are many more you could ask! But please don´t forget, it is a fantasy movie! A fantasy movie doesn´t need to be realistic, and it also doesn´t want to be!
Nobody asks why it is possible to hear noises, when space ships in Star Wars shoot at something - although it is impossible to hear noises in space! A fantasy movie lives of exaggerations! Why do you always bother about realism in fantasy films? If you want to watch a realistic movie, then you should watch a drama or something, but no fantasy or science-fiction movie! - Or at least, don´t wonder about exaggerations!
Of course it was not a perfect movie. Mark Whalberg really didn´t act very well, and I often asked myself why Estella Warren is in this movie. She is always in the middle of the plot, looking beautiful but speaking only five sentences over the whole movie.
But altogether it was a very nice movie. I will have to buy the DVD as soon as it is available!
Therefore 8 out of 10.
Well, I think I will watch the original movie soon, but I´m not looking forward to compare the movies!
