Reviews
The Manor (2021)
Lame and boring
I love Blumhouse movies, but this one misses the mark. It moves very slowly, maybe because it's about old people. Such great actors are wasted on a clunky script with a few cliché jumpscares. I pretty much figured it out 1/4 way through, fell asleep halfway through, and woke up in time for the ending, which was exactly what I figured it would be.
Till Death (2021)
I haven't even finished the movie yet and I'm giving it a bad review
When you consider that all she really needs to do after he shoots himself is to pulverize his hand with something so she can pull the handcuff off (or all he needed to do was handcuff her to the bed), the entire premise of this movie falls apart.
Unhinged (2020)
There is nothing redeeming about this movie
This starts off with what I suppose is an introductory scene in which Angry Russell Crowe kills someone and then starts their joy on fire. We don't know why, I guess it is to show how angry he is? The main character is unlikeable from the start, being a complete b*tch to Angry Russell Crowe after he fails to go during a green light. She then continues to make the worst decisions, leading to some of her friends getting killed, plus many other innocent bystanders. After an anticlimactic resolution complete with a cliché kill line, we leave the movie never fully understanding why Russell Crowe was so angry.
Mandy (2018)
Unpopular opinion: it's terrible
This had a decent basic storyline which could have made for a good revenge movie, but instead it was a long, drawn-out snorefest thanks to the numerous attempts at being "artsy". Now, I love movies like Natural Born Killers and anything made by Lynch or Kubrick, but this one seemed like it was trying too hard. And unfortunately, that takes precedence over the story.
I was excited to see the film's first beautifully enhanced scenes, thinking that this was going to be a visually stunning movie. But the director seems to rely on using the same few effects throughout the film, so the impact is lost before long. He is especially fond of reddish filters, using them in nearly every scene. This became quite tiring after 45 minutes or so. About the only thing I really appreciated was the soundtrack.
At least the first half was interesting enough to keep me watching it. The second half took a hard veer and I stopped paying attention to it after that.
Clinton Road (2019)
Awful. Simply awful.
I read about Clinton Road, so I thought this would be a really creepy movie. It isn't. Instead, it's laughable. The acting was subpar, the lighting and angles made it look like a made-for-tv movie, and the characters were one-dimensional at best. Even Ice-T was bad, and I was wondering what he was doing there. This totally could have been a really good movie, but the lack of talent and good directing destroyed any possibility.
