Jackals (I) (2017)

Reading the negative and hateful reviews makes me wonder...
22 January 2019
What kind of world we are living in. Are there that many stupid people? People with no sense of entertainment, or no real basic intelligence?

This was clearly an entertaining movie that captures you right from the beginning and holds on, throughout. It came on t.v. the other day and I sat and watched the whole thing, again (rented it on redbox the first time).

My only question is will they make a sequel, because I hope they do.

Who are these people who give such negative and misleading reviews to a good and entertaining movie. Are they just pure pseudo-intellectuals who have no common sense? Are they upside down people who don't even know who they are? lol. Seems like we are getting fuller and fuller of these kinds of people, and it's a real shame.

Dear John (I) (2010)
8/10
Amanda Seyfried steals it
2 June 2010
Much better than the average score given here, in my opinion, Dear John is one of the rare movies that I started watching again as soon as it was over, mainly because I couldn't get enough of looking at Amanda Seyfried. She is such an attractive young woman in every way, but she kind of sneaked up on me. I thought that she was attractive when I first saw her, but that was an under-estimation on my part. Due to her unique and ultimately stunning looks and way of acting, talking and apparently feeling, I was completely captivated by her by the end of the movie. Somehow, over the course of the movie, she came to represent everything that I want in my life, and everything that is missing. (It probably didn't hurt--or yes, it did, hurt, I suppose--that she is as similar looking and acting to my first love as probably any woman I have ever seen on the screen). Anyway, solid movie, overall, and poignant love story, but Seyried absolutely stole it, and stole my heart in the process. By the way, I didn't read the book--and have never read any Nicholas Sparks book--even though I read quite a bit.

Love Happens (2009)
8/10
Much better than the 5.5 rating here
10 February 2010
I am shocked by the relatively low rating here, and by some of the negative reviews. This is a very good movie, the best I can ever recall seeing from Aniston, and on par with Eckhart's better work. It isn't a pure comedy, no, it is more of a love story / family drama with some nice comedic elements, but it really works, from start to finish. I didn't detect a false note in the entire film, and 8 is the lowest I would rate it. Nice performance by all of the major players, including Martin Sheen and Burke's manager. Watching the DVD, I wish they had included the deleted scenes, especially the one involving Aniston and her ex, Tyler. By the way, any Longhorn fans out there notice the resemblance between Eckhart and Horns' D. Coordinator and Head-Coach-in-Waiting Will Muschamp?

very good, and...
21 January 2010
OK, so this is obviously, in my opinion, a very good movie, far more interesting than the original, as I recall it, having seen it on video a few years back.

But I would like to take this opportunity to list some other 9s and 10s that I have seen in my life (unfortunately, they have been precious few). Gran Torino, Donnie Darko, Thirteen, Clueless, The Godfather I & II, Rocky I & II, Good Will Hunting, Grand Canyon, The Apartment (not alive for it, obviously), Sling Blade, The Omen, About Last Night, Less Than Zero, Fear, Into The Blue, Selena, Aliens, Terminator, the final Star Wars, Everyone Says I Love You (and about half of the movies Woody Allen has ever made), Garden State, Fling, London, The Hottest State, Before Sunset, Ghost...

O.k, o.k, you get the idea, I have not mentioned all of them, and some of you undoubtedly disagree with me on some of these, but my point is this: please make more movies of high quality like this, and we will go to the movies. Thank you.

rainy day poignant

Warning: Spoilers
I would put this in the same category as "London", with Jessica Biel. It will graphically and painfully remind most people of someone they loved and lost. It's the kind of movie to watch when you are already feeling down due to a break-up, or when you kind of want to feel that way or remember a girl / guy you who you once loved.

This is also a pretty good coming-of-age story. Laura Linney, playing the lead's mother, delivers advice I will never forget about people begging you to be weak but really wanting you to be strong. Still, the love story and heartbreak is the most powerful thing in it, to me.

I look forward to more movies from Ethan Hawke.
