Fast X (2023)
Vin Diesel has a formula and sticks to it
I admit I stopped watching these movies way back when Tokyo Drift was the worst of the series. This one I watched just to see Jason Momoa play a bad guy. He's camp, he's funny. But otherwise these movies are just copy and paste.
They legit had a great ending saying goodbye to Brian, that should have been it. Now there's a 10 year old kid climbing on the back of moving cars, a prison in Antartica, 2 parts and somehow Jordana Brewster is still getting the least amount of screen time?
Ultimately it's an entertaining watch for a quiet post-Christmas day. I might even watch the second part in 2025. But stars have to be removed for the casting of Gal Gadot. Ditch her for someone who doesn't rejoice in g#noc^de.
Welcome to Waverly (2018)
Surface level observations
I only came across this show recently on Hayu. I'm surprised that I can't find any commentary online about what happened on this show.
Overall the participants and citizens of Waverly were great to watch. It was awesome to see open conversations about sexuality but also Zach's experience in the church showed that not everyone is accepting. There were 2 overtly racist instances in the show, one of which I was concerned how it would go if there weren't cameras around.
Unfortunately I think the show was let down by the overly obnoxious Melissa. She came across as wanting to start arguments before she even arrived, judged everyone from the outset - including her housemates - and had the audacity to think she could speak on behalf of gay and black people. Thanks to her any exploration of how or why the people of Waverly think/vote/live wasn't possible, but I did learn the importance of humbling yourself and that cities are also boxes that people should try stepping out of occasionally.
Eternals (2021)
Should have watched sooner
I don't know what it was about the marketing that made this movie seem unappealing, but I wish I had watched it sooner and at the cinema (although a bit hard with a pandemic and everything).
Eternals is my favourite Marvel movie in a long time. Understated, well acted, and superhero's that actually care about humanity and don't just smash up city after city. Every actor suited their character, and major props for including a deaf actor. She was awesome.
I would choose an Eternals 2 over a sequel for literally any other MCU character, so it's disappointing to see Disney choosing to continue with Ant Man and Shazam when they have this gem.
Miss Sloane (2016)
Brilliant performances
Some of the reviews of this movie prove that they are political opinions and not actual movie reviews, especially those that mention that they 'lean left' or such nonsense.
We watch movies to be entertained and this movie was brilliant. Jessica Chastain's performance stood out as the best I have seen in a long time. The plot was reminiscent of a John Grisham novel but even better.
