Could Hitler Have Been Stopped? (2022)
Hindsight at it's best
Leading historians tell us how, with the benefit of hindsight, they would have stopped Hitler without going to war whilst conveniently ignoring major issues which prevented Hitler being stopped without going to war.
The historians, of course, all present thier own mildly agreeing but differing views whilst pouring scorn on historical figures without presenting the full facts.
It's not all bad but it certainly isn't good, or rounded but a narrow look at why the historians think appeasement didn't work...but again with the full benefit of hindsight.
It ends perhaps with the most telling point, that if Hilter wasn't appeased that he would have turned Eastwards to Russia...a nation that nearly fell but for the many military assets occupied in the West, the same nations would likely then be drawn into the war but a different one where Russia may have already been defeated.
This kind of whatifism just doesn't work.
Robot Riot (2020)
Stupid
Giant robots fail to kill 4 inept actors.
The basic premise is just about OK but the huge plot failings, stupidity of robots, terrible acting and lame storyline of this budget b-movie makes it a farcical joke.
Essentially a bunch of mind-wiped soldiers get dropped in to test the capabilities of hulking Robotic mechs. They quickly find they are the latest of a long line of previous test subjects and that they are trapped in an old "town of the future".
Armed with a few electric rifles, a grenade launcher and a few machetes, the 4 protagonists set about systematically wiping out entire platoons of advanced robotic soldiers before escaping and leaving the mad puppet master in charge to his fate at the hands of his mechanical children.
The initial test subjects who dropped in before the film starts must have already been dead as there is no way the robot beasties could have killed them as they are, quite frankly, a colossal waste of money.
I fail to see how a gigantic walking behemoth armed with numerous machine guns, heavy cannons & rocket launchers can so consistently miss a target to the point that 5 of these "killing machines" lose a firefight with 4 barely competent soldiers lined up 20 yards ahead of them.
Whilst not a terribly serious movie, some sort of threat from these metal monsters would have been nice, instead you are left wondering if the robots are even trying of if thier guns are even loaded.
It's just about watchable.
Without Remorse (2021)
Murderous villain commits terrorist acts.
After his wife is murdered the main protagonist murders a few people and attacks an airport before getting arrested. After beating up a few faceless police goons he is somehow released to go and attack Russia where he murders a few Russian police officers and blows up an apartment block before coming back and murdering a politician. Wow. Vaguely entertaining but utterly farcical and has nothing in common with the book other than the title and a few characters.
The Taking (2014)
Watchable
Reasonable acting, reasonable plot. Nothing special, some jump scares but relies on point of view camara angles, a lot of panicking, loads of shouting and a weak magic ritual plot which is slowly unfolded but ultimately obvious.
Independence Day (1996)
Awful
Physics is a thing that happens in other films. Devoid of reason, unrealistic to the point of stupidity and so far fetched to be comedic.
It neither fits as a comedy or sci-fi but senseless and idiotic rubbish.
How does a static, Five Mile wide object falling from 1000 feet miss everything beneath it
Why does an Alien Ship have a port which fits and connects conveniently with the technology of 1998
How does a tail manage to manipulate a voicebox
Why does an intergalactic race with hyperadvanced technology need to use earth's satellites to set a timer
Why do a race which travels the universe invading planets not land ground troops and have no strategic ability
These and other questions will be answered by watching this film
I like Will Smith, I like sci-fi, I like comedy but mix these three together with a pinch of poor screenwriting and we get this garbage.
Alone We Fight (2018)
Barely worth reviewing
Terrible plot, awful acting, entirely unbelievable, festooned with plot holes, littered with poor cliches...it doesn't get much worse.
Not worth watching
