The Fugitive (1993)
CPD will eat him alive
One of my favorites...deserves the "classic" descriptor in my opinion. I like what one reviewer said above about how even when you've seen it a million times it continues to excite.
I've spent half my life in Chicago. So for me personally (apropos of "The Dark Knight") the general backdrop, the cinematography, and certain references in the dialogue really bolster the movie. There are legitimate scenes at the Hilton, City Hall, Daley Plaza, and a pretty damn good depiction of an L-evated CTA train.
That being said, I've always wondered if it was a 'goof' when they reference 'Balbo station' after Kimball's encounter with Sykes on the L near the end of the movie. To my knowledge, no such station exists, at least not on the CTA. Maybe it's a Metra stop, or maybe there was once a Balbo station in '93.... Balbo is certainly a Chicago street and has been for a long time, so I dinna ken, and I digress. But if anyone has an answer to that, I'd be interested.
Game of Thrones: Mhysa (2013)
Thrones geography nerd
Wanted to put this in 'Goofs' but not sure how. When Davos sets Gendry free, he tells him to:
"Row for a full day and night and you'll reach Rook's Rest...[don't stop, etc]...keep the coast on your left side until you reach King's Landing."
According to the map, if he passed the coastline where Rook's Rest lies (on Cracklaw Point, along the northern shore of Blackwater Bay) when coming west from Dragonstone, the coast would be on his right side.
Except, wait, while I was watching I realized he's rowing-thus, facing backwards-so it's actually correct, the coast would be on his left. Not a goof.
Wow, fantastical geography is fun!
Nothing to see here.
