M3GAN (2022)
Misses the mark
This is one of those films that you know what you're getting into going into it. With that being said you still expect some twists or some unexpected things to pop up.
Unfortunately this film has none of that. From the opening scene to the climax everything that happened is 100 percent predictable. The acting is decent but there is no character development and no emotional attachment created for any of the characters. It's full of cliches right down to the over the top jerk boss, I mean come on no boss is actually like that.
I found myself pulling the phone out of my pocket to look at the time hoping that it would be over soon.
Fall (2022)
Stomach turning suspense
It's been a while since I've seen a movie that made me feel so queezy and uneasy as this one. In a good way though of course. It's full of vertigo inducing, stomach turning scenes. To really appreciate the suspense and the cinematography that builds the suspense this film should really be seen on the big screen.
The story line is well laid out and adds to the suspenseful nature of the film. Without giving anything away I could have done without the twist though. I think the movie would have been better if they just made a nice linear survival story.
All in all it gets a solid 7 from me. Mostly just for the suspenseful scenes and for a decent story line that it my opinion could have been better though.
The Lost City (2022)
Old, reused plot line and not very entertaining
I went into this movie without seeing the trailer or reading any reviews but seeing as it was billed as an adventure/comedy I was expecting something funny and full of adventure.
Well...I was disappointed. The plot line has been done before, time and time again. I mean, it's been years since I've seen Romancing the Stone but as I recall it's basically the same story line. The climax scene I'm pretty sure they just took from the Goonies, although not done nearly as well.
The scenes that are meant to be comedic are really not that funny. I didn't have one point in the movie that I actually laughed. Maybe a little snicker at one scene but that's about it. Even the adventure aspect of it wasn't original or very adventurous. It didn't have the ability to pull me into the adventure like other great adventure movies do.
I still give it 4 stars for some good acting and some cool jungle scenes but that's really about all this movie has going for it.
The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent (2022)
A must for Cage fans and non-fans as well
Just left an advanced screening of this movie and I loved every minute of it. That being said I'm a huge Nick Cage fan and have seen most of his movies. I loved the references to his past movies but even if you haven't seen his past movies this is still a great film.
It has the perfect mix of Action, Drama, and comedy. I laughed out loud in the theatre a few times. The 2 leads have great chemistry in what turns out to be a great bromance movie.
If you're a Nick Cage fan then this movie is an absolute must watch and I would recommend it to non Nick Cage fans as well.
This is one that will be added to my home movie collection for sure.
Aileen Wuornos: American Boogeywoman (2021)
Could've worked as a take of fiction
I think this movie could have worked had the filmmakers not used Wuornos' name. There is nothing in this movie that is true to the story of Wuornos.
They could have used a fictional name and made it entirely a fictional story without having to change anything.
The inaccuracies of the movie however is enough for me to give this only 3 starts.
In the Line of Duty: Ambush in Waco (1993)
Factually inaccurate
Okay, first of all I get that this movie was made shortly after the Waco incident occurred and all the facts weren't known. It even has that disclaimer in the opening scene.
Up until the raid scene I would say this was a decent movie, entertaining and mostly true to the facts. I say mostly because even the investigation didn't play out they way they portrayed it but I understand that for the sake of telling the story.
The Raid though was incredibly incorrect. This movie shows ATF agents coming and the Branch Davidians firing immediately upon them. It's still somewhat disputed who shot first but the most widely accepted theory now is that the ATF dog team was the first to fire, they show the dogs which in turn triggered return fire from the Davidians.
The cease fire that occurred didn't occur the way the movie portrayed either. It wasn't negotiated by telephone it was actually done through a reporter speaking to the sheriff on the phone.
I am in no way saying that Koresh was not to blame at all but in reality the ATF were the ones who initiated the "ambush" and are mostly to blame with how this played out.
If you want to watch this movie for a historical account of events then skip it because it is inaccurate. Read One of the books written by the survivors or the FBI negotiator to get a more factual account. Or better yet watch the mini series Waco (which is also somewhat one sided in the other direction but is more factual than this one)
