If you want to go out and watch a play but the weather is too bad, Rope is a perfect substitute.
Shot almost in one take (It could not be done because the crew needed to change the reels), and taking place in just a few rooms of a flat, this movie is a fine piece of film-making.
Watching it now demands setting oneself in the time of its making: Some lines, behaviours and the acting fit within the naivité of the 40s, making some characters a bit cartoonish and disappointing for someone expecting a modern development of facts. The performance and, moreover, the use of the camera make a predictable ending forgivable and enjoyable.
Hitchcock proofs his mastery in his handling of the very long shots and making them fit together, also using the camera as a character or even making the spectator one in some scenes, making you be in the flat with the characters and following the suspense.
Recomendable also for those who enjoy debates of moral and ethics for it poses interesting questions about the right or not to murder and superiority of being.
