The Return of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1994)
The First Movie Again, Just a Lot More Embarrassing
This was hard to sit through. Everyone puts on a career worst performance. Its exactly the first movie, with none of the tension, gore, horror and is just EMBARRASSING.
The Lie (2018)
Joey King, a Nicolas Cage in the making
With such hits as The Slender Man, Kissing Booth, Kissing Booth 2, Smartass and of course, Wish Upon under her resume, Joey King delivers another groundbreaking performance in "The Lie".
She does seem to have a pattern as to what scripts she chooses. This movie, just in line with all her other performances, is a complete failure.
One of the most boring and quite frankly, embarrassing films (if you wanna call it that) I have ever seen. Every single character is unlikable to the point where it's unbearable.
The only intrigue you get from it is figuring out which is worse, the lines or their delivery.
Go watch "Nocturne" instead.
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (2009)
Just as a movie, Weakest of the Entire Series
As someone who is vaguely familiar with the books, and an admirer of the movies this was a major disappointment. Not saying that the movie is bad by any means but this is a case where the movie really crumbles under the weight of adaptation. Not everything written in books is translated well to film. And it feels like a lot of details that should be included are not and things that shouldn't be included are.
A pretty huge chunk of the movie feels like a series of disconnected scenes that you could change the order to and it wouldn't make any difference. Plus a huge setback is no narrative thrust, there is no goal that we are supposed to care about.
But on the upside, the last 40 minutes is one the best climaxes in history. That is what elevates the movie and increases rewatchability.
Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker (2019)
The Best we could have gotten
J.J Abrams having monumental pressure on his shoulders, to not only end a conflicting trilogy but to end a deeply beloved Saga, gives us the best movie that was possible in the given circumstances.
Joker (2019)
"A Child Who is not Embraced by the Village will Burn it Down to Feel its Warmth."
Cold, hard and sharp; The film does absolute justice to Ledger's performance. Joker is a film that does not confine itself to the normal comic book genre. It is a character study, giving us an insight to how Arthur turns into the iconic villain Joker that we all love to hate. It takes us to back to 1980s Gotham City which is shown struggling due to massive segregation, crimes and disparity of wealth. With the unfortunate parts of society already on edge, it could just take one little spark to cause a big boom.
Joker makes the viewer some what sympathetic towards the character. And also forces the viewers to think what role do we play in creating such monsters. Joaquin Phoenix carries the whole movie on his shoulders and delivers, which many are calling, an Oscar worthy performance. His performance may send chills down spines for some viewers.
Bottom line is that this is exactly how such a complex character should have been handled and is the perfect origin story that Joker deserved.
It Chapter Two (2019)
IT Chapter 2 provides solid acting performances but Fails to Stick Perfect Ending
Compared to all other Horror movies of this era, IT Chapter 2 provides some very impressive acting performances (notably Bill Hader & James Ransone). The story however, not so much.
The first 100 minutes are spent mostly on reliving the past rather than developing the present. The only thing that keeps the audience intrigued are the jump scares. The rest is mildly entertaining and provides a very forgettable plot. So it is a 7/10 as strong casting made a huge difference in the final presentation.
But putting it in the realm of Horror Movies, I'd give it a solid 9/10 because at the end of the day the IT franchise grasps audiences in such a way that almost 95% of horror movies fail to achieve in today's industry.
