This isn't a perfect movie whatsoever. But the effort behind it and how good it turned out to be make me appreciate it so much. I've never felt so immersed in a movie's atmosphere. It's as if you could smell the salt coming from the water.
I'll say it again, the BALLS it took to create an actual shark, and god, do you know how many times this stupid machine broke? It makes me appreciate it.
You know when you're a kid and you just want to be independent? You want to become an adult once and for all? And later on when you're there realize that being a kid was the best moment of your life? This movie, plus its great OST achieves making me nostalgic, making me feel like a little kid again. Yes, you have these high budget animated movies like The Lion King, but they're movies for kids, not a movie to make you feel that nostalgia. My Neighbor Totoro's main theme captures this perfectly. If you could only go back to those beautiful times, when nothing mattered, wen you could play all day and run around the house...
*sigh*
I love this movie!
That summarizes it, the reason I give this an 8 is due to some lazy animation moments where it truly takes you out of the experience. I'm a hug Berserk fan, and if you're reading this and you're wondering "But that ending didn't finished anything" Yup, read the manga, when you're caught up, you'll wish it never ended.
