In Like Flynn (2018)
9/10
Great drama adventure!
29 April 2019
In Like Flynn presents an engaging dramatized adventure based off the life of Errol Flynn and focuses on the development of round characters. Aside from the incredible storyline in which Flynn embarks on an expedition for gold with three other companions, the film highlights each characters' ability to change and learn throughout their journey. The development of the four main characters-Flynn (Thomas Cocquerel), Dook (William Moseley), Rex (Corey William Large), and Charlie (Clive Standen)-captured me emotionally, as each of their stories changed and intertwined with one another. As the changes in each character became more evident, I became more emotionally involved with their stories and their fates. I highly recommend this film, because it stretches far beyond an intense adventure movie, and depicts the development of character through friendships and challenges.

Stockholm (2018)

Great action heist!
18 April 2019
In Stockholm, Robert Budreau incredibly captured an enthralling thriller alongside a dark comedy, while also visually displaying the origin of the psychological development called "Stockholm syndrome." The main characters all dynamically develop until the end, aiding in accurately showing the meaning of the syndrome (when a hostage begins to gain feeling of trust and empathy for their captors). Rather than simply showing an action-heist plot with static characters, similar to most films in the genre, it was able to show change within each character, which contributed to captivating my full attention. My favorite aspect of the film is that it's able to show a main theme of humanizing a bank robber rather than seeing him as a mere tumor to society, all mostly done through dark humor. Additionally, although it is based off true events, the ending still remains unpredictable. I highly recommend Stockholm, as it analyzed and depicted a serious psychological development while also bringing humor its storyline.

Soul to Keep (2018)

terrifyingly captivating
5 April 2019
The most captivating part of Soul to Keep was the unpredictability and plot twists embedded in the storyline. Although using an old myth surrounding demon Beezlebub, the film uniquely correlates it to a group of college students, not only making it highly relatable but also terrifyingly unpredictable. This film does not follow your stereotypical pop-out horror films, and instead brings the classic demonic possession story to an eerie twist. I highly suggest Soul to Keep, as the captivating and puzzling plot grasped my focus until the very end.

natural and encapsulating
8 March 2019
Incredibly depicting the adversities that some black Americans must bear, Life and Nothing More creates a genuine and realistic story that aids in exposing these everyday struggles. Through the story of single mother Regina (Regina Williams) and her son Andrew (Andrew Bleechington), the seemingly natural footage authentically highlights their financial and social hardships, while also bringing an encapsulating narrative. This film gave me the opportunity to view and understand an unfamiliar perspective of life for people in my surrounding community. I highly recommend this film because it shows a relevant representation of life itself, while also grasping my attention.

encapsulating and creepy story!
7 March 2019
Darkness Visible is a completely unique and frightening film that integrates Indian influence and spiritual eeriness. Deviating away from the stereotypical horror film, it integrates both murder-mystery and supernatural thriller in its puzzling storyline. Focusing on Ronnie (played by Jaz Deol), a London native, he travels to India to see his hospitalized mother, only to become consumed with a series of murders all tracing back to a mysterious witch. The exotic Indian myths and legends forming the plot grasped my focus, due to my unfamiliarity and the mystery of the culture. Filled with convoluted twists and frightfully unexpected turns in the story, I highly suggest this film, as it captured my attention until the very end.

Number 37 (2018)

amazing performance from Irshaad Ally
7 March 2019
Irshaad Ally's performance in Number 37 exceptionally instilled the same fear and worry that his character endures in the film. His character Randal had to unwillingly make dangerous decisions at the potential cost of his own life and of others, and Ally truly exerted the fear one would have in that situation. His engrossing performance kept me on edge and prevented me from looking away from the screen. Looking forward to seeing more from him, and I highly recommend you watch his thrilling performance in this incredible dedication to Hitchcock's Rear Window.

Saint Judy (2018)

Empowering and Inspiring!!!!
5 March 2019
Incredibly eye-opening and informative, Saint Judy broadened my perspective on the modern immigrant's struggles upon arriving to the United States. The true narrative follows Judy Wood (Michelle Monaghan) and her ambitious attempts to help the case of Afghan woman Asefa, in which she applies for asylum after being imprisoned by the Taliban for empowering young girls with knowledge. Judy's unyielding effort to save Asefa then leads into a battle against the United States law of asylum for women. Although I am already familiarized with life for Hispanic immigrants, as my parents initially held that status, this film educated me on the brutal centers in which most immigrants are held, and on the law of asylum for especially Afghan women. Immigration being such a relevant topic today, I gained a new outlook on the modern immigrant and their struggles to reach equality and freedom within this country. I highly recommend you watch Saint Judy, as it encapsulated my attention while also giving me an inside viewpoint to the hardships immigrants, especially female, must endure.
