My Little Eye (2002)
Horrible
I was willing to tolerate the horrible acting that is so common anymore, because I thought the plot might turn out to be something really interesting. Then in the last 20 minutes it turns into a slasher flick. Now it's one thing to be a slasher flick, but when it's done to look like a reality show turned murder rampage, that's stepping over the line. This movie is truly sick, disturbing beyond anything I've ever seen, and you'd have to be a sick person to find it entertaining. Anyone involved with this movie should be ashamed of them self. I don't blame all of society's troubles on the media, but we can do just fine without movies like this, glamorizing murder, making it look easy and consequence free. It's movies like this that inspire already unstable people to do things that they might not have done otherwise.
Seabiscuit (2003)
One of the best movies of all time
I can't say a bad thing about this movie. There wasn't a single moment that I didn't like. Everyone who acted in this movie did no less than perfection. The movie has so much depth, has so much feeling and emotion and none of it feels forced, phoney or corny/ham handed. The development of the characters and the plot feels very natural and real and the movie flows at a comfortable pace. It's a movie you can cry tears of joy about and not feel weird about it. And to think I was so naive and close minded that I didn't see it in the theater because I told myself, "Who wants to see a movie about a racehorse?" If only I'd known how ignorant that statement was. I'd pay several times the admittance to have seen this in the theater, just to have had that added experience of seeing it there. This movie easily makes my top 5 of all time and is probably the best movie I've ever seen, and although I've seen it a few times now I still have a strong emotional response to it every time I watch it and feel my appreciation of it not waning, but only enriching. This movie is truly a "Must See." I hope you like it as much as I do.
The Day After Tomorrow (2004)
The day before yesterday I thought I wanted to see this
It's all been said. This movie was as big a letdown, if not bigger than the Matrix sequels. This movie was an insult to the intelligence of anyone with an education beyond 8th grade. Nice to see the minorities represented. Hispanic janitor, intelligent Asian woman, homeless African American. Not to mention the stereotypical librarian. Jake Gyllenhaal was awesome in Donnie Darko so I figured if he was in this that it had to be at least decent. Sneaky bastard Jake! I don't know how he managed to do decent acting using the horrible script and the vomit inducing acting that took place all around him. Kudos to Jake for managing to keep his head above water in this one, despite the constant dragging of everyone around him. He obviously couldn't carry the movie but he made a valiant effort it would seem. I'm ashamed of how naive I was to think that this thing wasn't going to be as cheesy and corny as it was. I've seen few movies this chocked full of both. Even if you take it at a base level and look at this totally for the brainless entertainment factor, again, unless you're an ignorant moron, your intelligence is going to be offended. The action sequences, people managing to run several yards, up flights of stairs from a 14 story wall of water had me squirming to run out of the theater, in hopes that I might salvage the rest of my evening. Need I mention the emotional insult? Next to no character development, half assed at best. Unless you're extremely shallow, you're going to gag on the convenient store, prepackaged, freeze dried, preservative filled, single serving emotional scenes. This movie dropped the bottom out for how low the bar can go. I heard someone start to clap behind me at the end and I had to lie to myself that they were clapping because it was over, otherwise I would have had to strangle them.
The Matrix Revolutions (2003)
Part 3 of of a Great Big Letdown
What a piece of crap that was! I mean, Reloaded sucked but I thought for sure Revolutions would fill in the gaps. I think the Wachowski brothers just wanted to make a few more million, they certainly weren't in it to finish the story. Revolutions had some really cool fight scenes, but the story just wasn't there. I won't say anything that might "spoil" it for anyone who hasn't seen it yet. It's always hard to live up to a movie that pretty much benchmarked the genre it is in, which the first Matrix definately did, but look at the "Back to the Future" trilogy, "Star Wars" trilogy or the "Indiana Jones" trilogy. They were all very strong thoughout, but the Matrix trilogy started out very strong and fizzled out very quickly. It had an intriguing storyline that made you think, and had badass action to boot. I'd say all three movies had great action, and despite that the rest of the film industry played out the cinematography that was pioneered in the first film, it's still amazing for the other two movies. But, the story really went downhill. At least Reloaded had you wondering where the plot was going to go and strongly hinted at something big to come in Revolutions, despite that in and of itself, the storyline of the movie wasn't as strong as in the first, but in Revolutions it just fell flat on it's face. The ending was VERY anticlimactic to say the least. I mean, there was no emotional build up at all. Questions still remained unanswered from Reloaded, and what the hell happened to the Oracle? I don't remember much about Reloaded, but if she was in it, I don't recall that she was a different actress from the Oracle that was in the first one. I mean, if you can't get the same actress for whatever reason, then you do something to reflect that change, she's a pivotal character, you can't just stick someone in her place and expect people not to go, "WTF?". Additionally, it's almost like, if you didn't see the Animatrix that was released, you're not going to understand Revolutions, and I didn't see it. I thought for sure that it would have turned out that what they thought was real life, also turned out to be part of the matrix, hence why neo was able to stop the sentinels at the end of Reloaded. Or at least something similarly intriguing. Anyway, I'm thoroughly disappointed. There was so much potential for the story and it simply was never realized. What's sad is that there are people who were so into the first movie that they probably view Reloaded and Revolutions with rose colored glasses. I was one of the biggest matrix fans you'd meet, but I'm not going to whitewash the rest of the trilogy to make it something it's not. It's a BIG let down, plain and simple. I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who feels this way, and having 24 hours of philosophy courses under my belt, I don't think anything went over my head, there was no subtance, nothing to be missed.
Collateral Damage (2002)
The only collateral damage here is people's time and money
This has to be one of the worst movies I've ever seen. The characters and storyline feel like something out of the late 80's early 90's. This movie makes the Steven Segal films look great. Thankfully the only collateral damage I incurred as a result of seeing this film was my time, unlike others who might have actually paid to see it. If I could buy back the time I spent watching this piece of garbage, no price would be too high. Poor Arnold, with all those lame movies under his belt, this one doesn't help any. I would imagine "Junior" was probably more entertaining than this, and thankfully, I haven't seen it.
