The Assassination of Richard Nixon (2004)
Solid Movie
I thought this was a great performance by Sean Penn, watching him mentally deteriorate steadily. The supporting cast was really great too, especially Jim Thompson as his salesman boss. Depressing movie but based on a true story and the Nixon era throwback make this a classic movie. I lived during the Nixon era and remember well the deceit and dishonesty. Can identify with Penn's angst.
Why must I comment on 10 lines or more when the above is more than adequate?
So once again, a very good movie. Thanks for the opportunity to post.
The killing spree at the end was very sad. Rich H
Monster (2003)
Unbelievable Acting Performance by both Ricci and Theron
Although a sad and depressing movie, it was supposed to be this way. The acting was some of the best I have ever seen including the older classics. Theron was just way over the top -- you did not see in appearance or the way she acted in this movie. A must see for Theron fans and for anyone else who wants to witness a gripping story.
Before Sunrise (1995)
Great Movie
Haven studied in Europe for two times in the late 60's and early 70's, this movie really struck home -- the fast trains, great geography, little towns, fantastic scenery overall. Combine this with the moving story of two students meeting by accident made this an over the top movie for me. Highly recommended.
Hysterical Blindness (2002)
Very Good Movie
I thought this movie was very good -- thought provoking, certainly not an empty movie. Uma Thurman's performance is simply off the charts - is she great or what? This movie really had my attention from the get go.
Sister Helen (2002)
Great TV Work
This tearful movie about a sister and her battle to save as many souls as she can is very moving. The film does well in picking up the characters and showing how Sister Helen deals with each.
A wonderful journey from life to death.
Sweet November (2001)
Good or Bad?
First off, I read all 161 comments before I entered this. I have watched the movie three times. Initially, after the first two movies, my wife and I thought this movie was garbage (2.5 out of 10). Now, after watching it a third time and listening to your comments, I have revised my rating to a whopping 6 out of 10. I will not repeat much here but did anyone else notice that when Reeves drove up to Sara's digs in the Mercedes and turned the ignition off and doused the lights that one fog light remained lit -- very weird!
Basically, I love Theron -- like someone else said, I would have a hard time saying no to any request she made but then again, I am not Nelson, the hard driven ad exec - come on, this movie is out in left field. Reeves is bad, but I thought he was not terrible - he did try hard. The plot was just too much Hollywood crap for me but I did like the originality, I loved sound track, and since I live near SF, I loved the location. The ending was made on MARS, I think. Anyways, all summed, that is why I gave it the 6.
Promised Land (1987)
Terrific movie - have watched over and over again many times
No matter what the critics contend I loved this movie - I like the actors - all of them, not just the top 4. I thought the top 4 should have gotten Oscars. The film is depressing but it is supposed to be that way. The scenery and music just add to the awesomeness. References to President Regan made it more relevant. The despair and frustration of growing up in this movie are not equalled anywhere else. Two thumbs up.
Countdown to Looking Glass (1984)
Excellent TV Movie -- a solid "10"
There were Threads, Day After, By Dawn's Early Light, plus more but I say this movie was the most believable nuclear war starting theory ever made. Never a dull moment in the movie and good acting throughout. A must have and see. A very scary movie - haunted me for days thereafter.
