Don't Say a Word (2001)
"Ransom" Without Mel Gibson.
During the entire film, I had a strange fealing of "de-ja-voux" and I couldn't figure out why. Then I realized - This movie was almost exactly like "Ransom" only instead of Mel Gibson - they put Michael Douglas.
No, that's not accurate. "Ransom" was a much much better movie the "Don't Say a Word" (in a lot of ways), but I could swear that other than the plot itself (child is kidnaped by a psychopath , father runs all over the place fighting the bad guys and mother sitting at home yelling histerically) I actually recognized some of the shots of the movie being identical to "Ransom" (Michael Douglas on the Porch, Michael Douglas driving in the street of New-york spotting something that reminds him of his child etc.).
I say - If you're gonna Copy a movie, at least try to hide it!
Earthly Possessions (1999)
nice.
Well, I rented this film because I like "Hostage and Kidnapper fall in love" kind of movies and I must say I wasn't too disappointed. I didn't expect a brilliant film, and it wasn't, but it was still quite enjoyable. Susan Sarandon is amazing, as always. Stephen Dorff is (without sounding too shallow) really cute. Together, they produce a pretty fine dynamic. I too was disappointed by the ending, but I still liked the film. What can I say, I always fall for those cute kidnappers...
Friends (1994)
The funniest show ever!!!
This show is just the funniest show ever! All the actors are amazing and they make their characters so real that you just can't help falling in love with them and take them for what they are- for better and for worst. Start watching and it is certain you won't be able to stop!
Simon Birch (1998)
A beautiful film!
This is a purely beautiful film! It has so much sense and innocence you can't help getting sucked into it! Both of the young actors are great. I do think Joseph Mazzello (who is truly one of my favorite actors!) was better, though. I remember him from "The Cure" and "Presumed innocent" and many more movies. "Simon Birch" is a wonderful film because no character there is Cliche, they are all real and the story is amazing and touching. It is a must-see!
The River Wild (1994)
Very entertaining and well made.
I've must have seen this film about 20 times, Not because It is such a quality movie, but mainly because it's so fun!!! I mean, the script could have been better and less predictable, but the psychological battle between Gail and Waid is always fascinating. With all due respect to Meryl Streep and Kevin Bacon, the one who really steals the show is young (at that time anyway) Joseph Mazzello as Roarke. I've been following this young amazing actor for years and it's amazing how a kid who is basically my age (born in 1983) can act better than most adults. He is the best in this film. The scenery is great too. Watch this film. It's not perfect, but it's very fun and interesting!
Empire of the Sun (1987)
A beautiful film.
This film is one of Spielberg's best. Again, he does an amazing thing by telling us a touching story, through the eyes of a child. That's why sometimes people say Spielberg is in some way still a child himself. But I think this is brilliant, because "Empire of the Sun" wouldn't have been the same if it weren't for this amazing child. Christian Bale is magnificent playing Jim, A spoiled yet charming 12 year old British boy living in China with his wealthy family. When Japan attacks, he - through the tragedy of the war - turns from a child to a man.
This movie brilliantly teaches us about the horrors of the war (and especially THAT war who has reached and hurt so many people all over the world). And what is more horrifying than the suffery of a child?
The music in the film is breath-taking (by John William of course), the directing is perfect. Almost every scene has deep meanings and is loaded with metaphors. You can't help falling in love with Jim - he actually represents the many children who had lived a happy normal happy life.. until...
watch this film, and keep a huge pile of tissues in reach!

The Sugarland Express (1974)
The best movie I've ever seen!!!!!
This movie is truly the best film I have ever laid eyes on!!!!! Everything about it is just so perfect! The actors (William Atherton, Goldie Hawn, Michael Sacks and Ben Johnson) are all incredible, the directing is brilliant - you can hardly tell Steven Spielberg was only 26 at the time. The music by John Williams is also very good- especially the use of Harmonicas, which add a special effect to the country stile of the film.
The film is based upon a real event, which makes it even more shocking. Although the movie is not completely loyal to reality, it still gives you stuff to thing about!
A word or two about the plot: Lou-Jean, a young blond... and a bit naive and childish women -persuades her also young and naive husband Clovis to break out of a pre-release center, so they can both reclaim their infant son Langston who has been sent for adoption. Unfortunately for them, things don't go their way - and they end-up ,unwittingly, hijacking a Texas highway-patrolman and his car and being chased by more than 200 patrolcars (led by captain Tanner) while heading to a town called "Sugarland" to get Langston. A very special relationship is built between the couple and their captive, during which the young cop understands their causes and feels for them, to the point where he is willing to aid them (as far as he legally can) in their debious mission.
I'm not saying who is wrong here and who's right and I'm not saying committing a crime is in any case okay, but this beautiful film makes you think: should the law be so quick in taring family apart? should all criminals suffer the same faith, regardless to consequences? How far should the long arm of the law reach and when should it back away? I don't know if the film answers those questions, but it sure brings 'em up, and that is not less important.
While watching the film, you cry with the heroes, you laugh with them, you share their faith and most of all: you understand they are people like you and me.
Don't rent this movie, but buy it! It is not enough to watch it only once or twice! this film is amazing! it would be a crime not to watch it!!
