Harold and Maude (1971)
Incredible.
In some ways, it mirrored my own experiences as a child (without the benefit of a great deal of money or a 79-year-old girlfriend). I was completely enthralled with this film. I resisted watching it for a long time - I will resist anything someone else insists I must watch. SPOILER ALERT The only part that bothered me was the ending: at a time when the two could be peacefully celebrating their last few hours together, he panics and she spends the last hours of her life with strangers poking tubes and needles into her. Therein lies the tragedy.
The Adventures of Mark Twain (1985)
Brilliantly Animated Story
After recently watching this film on video, I realized I had finally seen a movie I have waited 15 years to see since I missed it in the theatres when it first came out. I was not disappointed. Will Vinton Studios went out of their way to produce a masterpiece: the animation is top-notch, the story is amusing, intelligent, and marked with wry humor. I was particularly impressed with the section with the Mysterious Stranger. Most of the film focuses on the story of Adam and Eve. They explore Twain's dark side and his emotional side. Through all the subject matter, it still remains a family movie. Absolutely brilliant.
