The Crow (1994)
simply put, this is amazing
I haven't commented on IMDb in a long time, but I just saw this and decided I had to. This is really a very impressive film, full of amazing Gothic set pieces and a simple but extremely well told story, full of style and heart, although it also has corny dialog and the simplicity can be troublesome to some people. The story is about a rock guitarist who is murdered along with his fiancé, but who then gets the opportunity to come back to life with the help of a mystical crow to exact revenge on his and his fiancé's killers. The true stand-out of the film is in fact not the storytelling style or even the over the top action sequences, but instead the acting of Brandon Lee in the title role, who as many know tragically died during shooting of the film and was digitally added or had a double for the remainder of his scenes. Knowing that Lee had passed on gave watching this movie a unique experience, as you really started to blend Lee the actor and his character into one person. I don't like that many action movies and I don't like movies with simple plots but this one is an exception. I urge everyone to see this movie and experience both the fun Gothic storyline as well as Brandon Lee's truly spectacular performance. This is a must-see.
The Simpsons: Virtual Springfield (1997)
Fun once......then
After playing through the game one time, it becomes unbearably boring. The few locales you can actually visit are repetitive and the "humour" of the game consist of either recycled/rehashed gags from the show or of simply poor jokes.
The first playthrough it is kind of interesting to walk through our
favorite town, but then leaves you wishing of what the game could have been vs. what it was.
Get it if you are a hardcore fan....but even then I wouldn't recommend it. Pretty poor.
Koyaanisqatsi (1982)
What perfection looks and sounds like.
There is no way to put this film into words. Rent it. Buy it. Catch it on TV. It doesn't matter how, just see this film. It is truly a life changing experience. Every frame is true perfection. Every bit of music heard in the film is true perfection. Godfrey Reggio is KING!
Man on the Moon (1999)
A celebration...
When I first rented this, I was hoping it would be an explanation of Andy Kaufman's life. I then discovered it was not. This has been pointed out by several people who disliked the movie. The beginning of the film is not very good. It jumps from time period to time period (from his stand-up days, to SNL, to Taxi) and doesn't give you a chance to get to know the characters. The first about half-hour to hour is boring. However, after a while the movie finds its way. It gets very funny (the humour derived directly from Kaufman's material) and at the same time moving. By the end I found myself smiling from the very touching last 3 scenes. But then I got to thinking about what the critics had said. It really didn't explain Kaufman at all, and in a docu-drama-comedy such as this, that is a bad thing. But I really enjoyed the film. Jim Carrey gave an excellent performance (he makes you believe he is actually Andy) but I knew liked it for another reason. I have finally figured out that the movie is not an explnation of who Andy Kaufman was, but instead a celebration of life. It chronicles all the very, very strange things he did but it is always external. We never hear why he did these things, and that is the point. That's probably how Andy wants it. So if you're looking for a comedy that is also touching, this is a good film. But don't forget, don't get this movie thinking it will explain Kaufman, because like many other people, you will be disapointed. I am glad to know that out of the three movies directed by Milos Forman I've seen now, I've liked each one. One other thing: R.E.M.'s song "Man On the Moon" played during the credits rocks! "Tank you vedy much."
The Shawshank Redemption (1994)
My favorite film.
WARNING:***SPOILERS THROUGHOUT*** DO NOT READ IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THE MOVIE
I originally rented this film because I had read it was an escape movie. That was all I had really heard about it. The title didn't seem very familiar to me, but I thought I would rent it. I was slightly worried that I had ruined the ending for myself, but I was worrying for nothing. From the very first scene the movie had me. Morgan Freeman's performance was PERFECT. The music was great. The plot was surprisingly varied and it pulled me in. And of course the escape scene was the most uplifting thing I've ever seen in a movie anywhere. The plot is so simple. A man beats the system. It affects anyone who is human. If you have disregarded my warning and are reading it without seeing it, don't worry. I haven't ruined it. This is one movie that has to be experienced. There is absolutely nothing else I can say. Those of you have seen it will know what I'm talking about. It seems like I'm at a loss for words, and that's true. Everyone must see this movie. If you haven't seen it, stop reading, go out, and rent it or buy it or borrow it or steal it or download it-just see it. This is worth any rental price. It sounds simplistic to the point of irrevelence. It sounds like any other movie. It sounds boring. BUT ITS NOT. It's beautiful! It's perfect! My writing skills are usually much better than this, but I can't fit this movie into words. JUST SEE IT. NOW. "Get busy living, or get busy dying..."
The Simpsons (1989)
The greatest show in the history of television.
If you mix a great storyline, memerable lines, numerous sight gags, a very talented cast, and catchy music you get The Simpsons, THE GREATEST SHOW IN THE HISTORY OF TELEVISION.
The show centers around a family living in Springfield, USA. Homer (the thick-headed father, husband, and safety supervisor at the nuclear powerplant), Marge (the sterio-typed mother and wife), Bart (the michievious son), Lisa (the genius younger sister), and Maggie (the baby) make up the Simpson family.
The show storylines are sometimes far fetched, but they are so well written that nobody realizes that (like when Bart won the elephant.) The show also to pokes fun at everything but the show stops from letting the jokes ruin the plot.
Many shows have tried creating knock-offs of Simpsons (like Dinosaurs), but none of them have been able to achieve the same popularity.
The only problem with the show is the more recent episodes. Things happen in the show that would never happen in the original episodes, screwing up the show's continuity. The show is more like you average Saturday morning childrens cartoon than the witty, adult show that it used to be. The first seven or eight seasons of the show are great with more dramatic and complex plots. The rest of the seasons have simpiler plots filled with slapstick. Also, the characters in the first eight seasons were also more complex. Homer was thickheaded and mean, but still had a very loving and caring side and would do anything to make his family happy. Now Homer is an idiot who doesn't care about anyone but himself. Mr. Burns (Homer's ancient boss) origanlly had many dramatic lines and was a very realisitic character. Now, Mr. Burns is more like Saturday morning cartoon super villian. The only reason I still watch the show is because I am a very loyal Simpson fan. I want to know everything about every episode. The show still throws in an ok episode once and a while. I watch the old episodes to see the complexness of the characters and plots, but now I watch the show to get a good laugh. If you like insane and immature humor and slapstick watch the newer episodes. If you like dramatic plots mixed with a little bit of humor, watch the older episodes.
In the end, the show still remains the greatest television show ever made.
Rating: On a scale of one to ten: The newer episodes get a five out of ten. The originals get a thousand out of ten.

The Truman Show (1998)
A VERY ORIGINAL MOVIE
Most movies nowadays have plots that have been down many times before. The Truman show is a new idea. It's a very good movie. It's jokes are more subtle, that aren't really that funny when you are watching the movie for the first time, but when you think back about it you realize how absurd some of the situations were.
Jim Carrey plays Truman Burbank, a man whose life is televised 24 hours a day. It's very interesting to see Carrey in a dramatic role. He's actually pretty good at it.
Everyone should see this movie at least once, to see that there is some originality left in movies today.
ReBoot (1994)
A GREAT SHOW
Once in a while, a really great show will come along. This is one of the them.
The show is about people who live inside computers. The sprites, binomes, and guardians do battle with viruses, code masters, and many other computer associated enemies.
The first season and part of the second had simpler plots, goofy sound effects, corny jokes, and very mild violence. But as the show went on, the show got more complex, the goofy sound effects disappeared, the jokes were funnier, and the action increased. Also, there are many inside jokes on the show that you should look for.
The episodes of the later seasons will keep you on the edge of your seat, waiting to see what will happen next. This is also a unique cartoon because as the show went on, the characters CHANGED.
