John Landis Genius
10 April 2003
Probably one of the best Horror Movies ever. The Combination of Comedy with a great sense of british humor and gory horror scenes became legendary and were copied a hundreds of times afterwards. Rick Baker, as the Make up Artist created brand new technics for this movie wich also became legendary. The naturalistic acting and the true pictures of that movie gave him a very truthfull look, everything is very believable. The timing of all the scenes is amazing. Well at this time, Landis was on his zenit after directing Movies like animal house and The Blues Brothers. Later he returned to pure comedy in Trading Places and Coming to America. He tried to do a horror movie in the early ninetys with "Innocent Blood" with also great Make up, comedy and very bloody scenes, but the movie never hit the lightness and the genius of "An American Werewolf in London".

About Schmidt (2002)
10/10
What a lovely movie
23 March 2003
In the last years silence get out of buiseness in Hollywood. Everything must be flat, loud and spectacular. Directors like M. Night Shyamalan and also Alexander Payne found out, that slowmotion and silence is a very good way to tell storys intensly. "About Schmidt" works perfectly as a combination of comedy and drama. It is perfectly written and i don't understand, why it did not get nominated for an Academy Award after winning the Golden Globe as best Screenplay. The cast ist outstanding, everyone gives his best to support the story. There is a lot of truth in that movie as it was in "American Beauty" for examepl. A movie wich can change the Audience. Something, big Hollywood Flicks like the totaly overproduced "Chicago" never could reach. Nicholson is at his best. I think, every three to four years he gives a performance of the Decade. When you liked "As good as it gets" you'll love Nicholson in this movie.

This movie is funny!
5 March 2003
Well, they got a pretty good package with Kirsten Dunst, Deinse Richards, Kirstie Alley and Ellen Barkin and they did it. One of the funniest movies of the last years, respectless, with a big portion of black humor. White Trash at it's best. Specially Ellen Barkin and her best friend Allison Janney are hillarious. I think there is no better way to create a picture of the middlewest. A prety good independent picture wich cries out for more from director Jann and screenwriter Lona Williams. It would be so fresh and nice, if some of these 70 million Dollar Major Flicks would have just as half the funny lines as this movie. Sure a big eight out of ten.

Insomnia (1997)
Cold and Strange, but great.
21 September 2001
This Low Budget Thriller from Norway sometimes reminds me as a Mix between the cold and constructed pictures of David Cronenberg and the intense behaviour of the characters in a David Lynch Movie. Intense is the right word for this movie. Sometimes it`s hard to go the way with the main characters, but the people in this movie are like the Nature around them, foggy and cold. Stellan Skarsgard gives an outstanding performance.

Lammbock (2001)
A Black Chapter in German Film History!
16 August 2001
Lammbock is one of these - new modern german movies, made by "hot young" directors - bullshit. The movie is supid from the first minute on. The six minute starting dialogue about Pamela Andersons Breasts is a sign of that, what follows. Boring quotes, humor about incest, puking and drugs. But there is nothing new in it. It seems, that the director has made a summary of every urban teeny legend he ever has heard in his high school time. No Joke was bad enough for him to fit his 110 pages Screenplay. There is only one word with wich i could describe this movie - cheap! A black chapter in the career of Moritz Bleibtreu, Marie Zielcke and Sönke Wortmann.

Sleepless (2001)
The Fall of a Genius!
21 May 2001
I've seen "I Can't sleep" at the Filmfest Cannes. I was surprised, because i did not thought, that Argento was able to make more worse movies than his last ones "Phantom of the Opera" and "Stendhal Syndrome" but he has. "Non ho sono" is one of the most stupied pieces of crap i've ever seen. The acting is apocalyptic and the script is not worth to use it as toilette paper. What is going on with Argento ? After little genre masterpieces as "Suspiria", "Deep Red" and "Inferno" he was going crazy in refilming the same "giallo" trash on and on again. He is like AC/DC in the Music Buiseness, making the same movie since twenty years. But we are living in the Year 2001. The 70`s were interesting, because they are standing for Bad Taste in Europe. There were Zombie Rip Offs and Slasher Movies. Comparing with this Films Argento's movies were fantastic, bright and intelligent, full of visual genius. But twenty years after he seemes to be old an used. At the screening in Cannes almost seventy percent of the audience went out at the half of the movie. Life is short, to short to waste it with this or another Argento movie.
