Hana yori dango (2005)
Fantastic Series!
I discovered Hana Yori Dango and I was really stunned by it. What a wonderful series, while it was short lived,(9 episodes only), a sequel is coming in 2007 so I cant wait!I loved all of the characters specially Makino Tsukushi. What it is also great about the series is that depicts life in present day Japan and you get to see how the Japanese society deals with the concepts of love, drama, money...I really feel bad after seeing Tsukushi struggling to adapt to a higher place in society after she meet Tsukasa. And the final episode made me cry!!!!Now I am really looking forward to the sequel! Highly recommended!!!!
Enterprise (2001)
Star Trek:Enterprise or Star Trek:Starfleet Academy?
I must admit that Star Trek:Enterprise is a very interesting concept. I didnt had the idea that there was yet another starship Enterprise
before Captain James T.Kirk.We all know that Captain Robert April was the first USS Enterprise 1701 Captain ever, then came Captain Christopher Pike and later James Kirk. But in the Star Trek Chronology, written by Mike Okuda, indicates that the first USS Enterprise was the NCC 1701,launched in 2245.I know that something has to be written out for the earlier days of Star Trek, before the voyages of Captain Kirk. But where does the NX 01 USS Enterprise came from? Why to do a series about a starship that in the real Star Trek Universe never existed? If Captain Archer s ship is truly the first Enterprise, its never mentioned either in any Star Trek show.If there was a true prequel to James Kirk voyages,a Star Trek:Starfleet Academy series could have been the right thing to do instead of writing a story about an unknown starship Enterprise. For me,Starfleet Academy is an idea of having the early days of Jim Kirk as a cadet, how he meet with his crew at the Academy, how he meet Dr.Carol Marcus, who will become his wife, and how he did as a cadet. A Starfleet Academy show would put us into late 22nd Century San Francisco, and see more evolution of technology and have a better look at the very history of the United Federation of Planets. I like Enterprise, but if we could ever see Jim Kirk s early days at the Academy, that would be a very welcomed idea.By the way,who is Captain Jonathan Archer, anyway??
Deep Impact (1998)
Interesting movie, but full of plot holes
When I first watched Deep Impact back in 1998,I was thrilled about this movie. After I walked out of the movie theater,I really wondered how real the scenario that the film gave us was close to the real thing. After viewing the movie several times on TV,I concluded that this film has lots of mistakes and plot holes.First, one of the most important plot holes happens right after the comet crashes into Earth. People are evacuating the cities, but the comet passes nearby them, without doing any harm to them. Now,if this was a real comet, then all the people should have died, because of the tail of the comet and the speed of it.Second,President Tom Beck announces that several Titan missiles are going to be launched to stop the comet, yet it is impossible to build as many missiles from within one year time.
The movie takes place between the years 1998 and 1999.Then,the powerful wave that strikes New York City should have created more destruction as depicted, destroying all of the New York City area and beyond it. And the final plot hole that I discovered,is when at the end of the movie,we see President Tom Beck standing at a reconstructed White House, and in front of a clear sky.First,President Beck said that after the impact of the comets, the sky would prevail dark for 2 years because of the impact. So it s impossible either for the White House to be reconstructed in short time and to have a clear sky.The right ending for this film should have happened inside the ark,not outside.A nice movie, but nothing as near what could happen in the real life.
Superman III (1983)
Where is the Expanded Edition?!
I am a Superman Fan,and I began to enjoy the movie franchise since Superman:The Movie, which was a great piece of art.Superman II was OK,and it is one of the most controversial of the super films, this movie had 2 versions, like Superman III has.My problem with Superman IIII is the soundtrack and the poor special fx.I know that it was 1983,but even some 1980s films were very well done.See Back To The Future(1985) and you ll know what I mean.Rychard Pryor as Gus Gorman was OK,and Annete O Toole as Lana Lang was very welcome. But what I really hate of the film are the poor FX and Lana Lang s son,Ricky. The Expanded Edition of Superman III saves this film from total destruction, because in the theatrical realise some things doesn t make sense at all.If there is an Expanded Edition, why did Warner Bros decided not to restore it into the DVD?Some DVDS have their special editions, like Terminator 2 and Independence Day.My opinion on the 4 DVD realise of Superman is that the first Superman film on DVD is great, and the rest seems like the original VHS realise of the films, with nothing special in particular.(No storyboards,no Music Track,no director s commetary, nothing). If you want to see Superman III again... look for it on the Expanded Edition. The movie really flies with that!
Beneath the Planet of the Apes (1970)
The best sequel I have ever seen,but...
Well,I am those people that never had the chance to watch the original Planet of the Apes in the movies,so I watched it on VHS and now on DVD. The new 2001 version of Planet of the Apes...well,the only thing that saves the film from disaster is CGI this time, but the rest is a sick fantasy. The original is far superior, and the sequel,Beneath the Planet of The Apes helps to discover what Taylor did after he saw the destroyed Statue of Liberty, and what discovered later. The film shocked me when we learn of the mutants, the remains of the Nuclear War that destroyed civilization. But what I didn t understand is why NASA bothers to send a rescue mission if Taylor was on a colonization mission? Maybe at NASA they worried after they lost signal from Taylor s ship... Anyway, the makeup is good, acting and the costumes. My favorite scene on this one is when astronaut Brent realizes that he is on Earth s future after discovering the ruins of New York. But my main goof for this film is the time.Taylor landed in the year 3978,and Brent arrived in 3955... A little earlier before Taylor s arrival.Call this continuity problem, I guess...Anyway, a good sequel.
