Day of the Animals (1977)
Tame
Day of the Animals bites. Well, it's not that bad, however there's little excitement in it. Some of the animal attacks are good. But, most are tame! Maybe the makers took one cutting room floor scene from these movies; The Birds, Grizzly, The Pack, Willard, and SSSSSSSS! Could of been much better. Overall Grade: D+
Blood Feast (1963)
Boring and Silly
I first saw Blood Feast around 1981 on video. I did not like it. It was boring and silly. After viewing thousands of movies since then, I have watched it again on DVD this time. And, I still think it was boring and silly. Are we really suppose to believe that scene with Ishtar? Overall grade: D-
Color Me Blood Red (1965)
Fair
Color Me Blood Red has a few good moments. I can honestly say it grossed me out a couple of times (I don't like razors.) The movie has a plot that keeps it fairly entertaining. The major down-fall is its low budget with some poor acting from the bit players. Some scenes are so bad they are funny which helps it. Overall grade: C-
The Exorcist (1973)
Thumbs Up!
The Exorcist is shocking. The movie starts off slow and builds in excitement until the very end. Some people say movies that make you think are the best. I disagree. The best are like the Exorcist where you don't think about anything. You just watch in amazement on what's going on. You are not thinking the movie would be better if or what's going to take place next. Your mind is clearly on the movie. For example, when Reagan turns her head around and says, "You see what she did?" I was completely glued to the screen and I think you will be too. In fact, from then on I was hooked. Even better yet, it's like riding a rollercoaster with each new drop even better than the last.
Everything about the movie is first rate. Ellen Burstyn acting is excellent. The script is great. The special effects are great. The direction is superb. I seen thousands of movies, and the Exorcist is the best.
Something Weird (1967)
Something Bad!
I have seen about a thousand horror films. (my favorite type) This film is among the worst. For me, an idea drives a movie. So, even a poorly acted, cheaply made movie can be good. Something Weird is definitely cheaply made. However, it has little to say. I still don't understand what the karate scene in the beginning has to do with the film. Something Weird has little to offer. Save yourself the pain!
