The Adventures of Swiss Family Robinson (1998)
How to survive on an island in 10 lessons...
How do you survive on a deserted island when you're used to being served? That's what this series is all about. It takes us to a normal family in Boston many years ago. Back then in Boston people aren't equal. All people have their certain place and it has to stay that way, but once the family is shipwrecked and has to fight for their lives all the rules seem to change and even disappear. They develop friendships with people who are less important than them according to Boston's standards, they have adventures, survive illnesses, find love and have experiences that changes them forever. The series is sometimes a bit naive and moralistic but in the end it has a few lessons that some people seem to forget: love and friendship stand way above all society's rules and standards. It is that lesson that made me love watching this series. It's great for children, but I'm sure some of the older members of the family will enjoy watching this too!
The Devil's Advocate (1997)
Devil meets devil euhm...lawyer
I was really curious about this movie. Not only because Al Pacino is one of my favorite actors but also because the subject made me curious. There have been quite a few 'devil movies', so I wondered why another one? What can this one offer that the others couldn't? The answer is quite simple... another side of the devil: his human side. Pacino does a great job portraying the devil and learns us that there is a bit of the devil in all of us. But in the end we can choose our own path and destiny. It is also the end of the movie that I will always remember because it wasn't the usual (cliché) ending you get to see in so many thrillers. This movie is a must see for everyone who loves Pacino, but also for people who like to see a bit more than just the average thriller because this one is a lot more than just that! Also worth mentioning is the great performance of Charlize Theron in the role of Kevin's (Keanu) wife, Mary Ann.
