X-Men (2000)

Fun movie with few flaws
7 August 2000
Overall "X-Men" was a great movie. The quintessential summer blockbuster. The special effects were awesome but they didn't completely overshadow the plot which was interesting as well. My main problem with the movie was that we didn't get to know Storm at all. The other characters were really developed quite well, but Storm was denied both a personality and any decent lines. I was also sad to learn that Gambit, my personal favorite, wasn't in the movie. Oh well, maybe he'll show up in the sequel. I loved the message of tolerance and acceptance that was woven into the movie and that can be applied to many real-life situations. Hopefully it will help some viewers learn not to automatically fear what they don't understand.

Jeffrey (1995)

sexy and hysterically funny
27 July 2000
My sister introduced me to Jeffery a year or so ago and I immediately loved it! The movie is so funny! And Michael T. Weiss of course is the sexiest man alive! Patrick Stewart is phenomenal and the relationship with him and his partner was so touching. Personally I thought that Steve Weber and Michael T. Weiss had tons of chemistry. Just the way they looked at each other was so sweet. Anyway, the whole movie was so funny. I still laugh hysterically when I think about how nobody showed up for the "black gay republicans" section of the gay pride parade.

Beautiful and Uplifting
26 July 2000
My mother watched 20 minutes of this movie, decided that Roberto Benigni's character was "too stupid for life", and then turned it off. I have come to the conclusion that my mother is insane. "Life is Beautiful" has become my second favorite movie of all time. I don't quite understand how one could not love it. The movie does focus more on its message than being 100% historically accurate. But you have to remember that "Life is Beautiful" is only a MOVIE. It does recognize that concentration camps were truly horrifying places, but the movie is more about one man's ability to overcome for the sake of his little boy. I don't cry easily, but the end of this movie had me sobbing. On the one hand the most adorable little boy on the planet had been reunited with his mother, but on the other hand Guido (a man who just really appreciated life to its fullest extent) had been killed. What really got me was the line that started something like, "this was the sacrifice that my father made for me." Never has a movie flooded me with such intense yet conflicting emotions. "Life is Beautiful" is wonderful and I recommend that everybody see it!!!

The absolute best animated film
26 July 2000
Now I know what you're thinking. "You can't really be serious about this being the best animated film of all time?" But I am serious. I'm completely biased because when i was little I spent this whole summer where all I had to watch was "Fievel Goes West" or the three Indiana Jones movies. Surprisingly, I yet get sick of any of those four movies. To this day I still love "Fievel Goes West." I have basically memorized all the words and annoy my friends and family by even quoting it. "If growing up were easy, Fievel, would it take so long?" I love that quote! It was basically my motto throughout high school. I know I sound crazy, but this is an awesome movie with great songs and adorable characters!!!

An awful movie with one slighty redeeming quality
24 July 2000
Why does Freddie Prinze Jr. keep making predictable and completely idiotic teen movies? His acting was a little shady in this movie, but he could be a good actor if he just chose his parts more wisely. Maybe movie executives need to realize that teenagers like me will not trade quality just for a hot guy that can't act.Claire Forlani and her character were both annoying. I still can't understand why Freddie's character liked her! All in all this movie was disposable except for Jason Biggs. He is the reason that this movie got a 2 instead of a 1 from me. He obviously had a lack of judgement when he agreed to be in this piece of trash, but he made the best out of what he was given.

An entertaining story that did deviate from the book
24 July 2000
I was surprised about how the movie deviated from the book. Some of the changes seemed pointless, but I did like the change of adding the slavery aspect to the movie. It gave Tom far more substance than he was allowed to have in the book. I especially liked how Jane Austen's humor was accurately portrayed in the movie. Fanny did have some memorable and extremely witty lines. I was upset about her agreeing to marry Henry and then changing her mind. She really did hurt him very badly. I don't remember that happening in the book. The scene only seems to damage Fanny's character and I'm not sure what the writer was trying to accomplish by adding it.
