The Attic (1980)
poor dickey!!
This movie is amazingly boring if you aren't in the mood to watch it. the build up to the climax takes up almost the entire movie and when it does, slightly disturbing, yes, but completly predictable. all in all an average fair movie for the late 70's
The Sixth Sense (1999)
I see white people.....
Ok, this movie is cool. I think though a lot of people were surfing the movies hype and thought it was good cause "everyone else thought it was". Then again a lot of people didn't like it because they didn't understand it. Didn't anybody hear the VERY important plot point "They only see what they want to see" ????? I admit there are a few implausible things but perhaps we can look back to the movie "Ghost" where dead people COULD interact with inanimate objects. I was totally surprised by the ending even though I knew relatively what was happening, I think a lot of people are too much into the Hollywood hype where a movie has to have a definite dénouement, I find these people to be unimaginative and unappreciative to actual QUALITY movies which I think is where this movie ranks. But if you're looking for a movie that uses this genre better watch Jacob's ladder!!
Modern Vampires (1998)
So bad its funny
This movie seems to try to be so funny it in itself is funny. I did not see any merit to this movie as a "parody". This movie plays on several Vampire cliché's and the accents seem to jump all over the place. The gratuitous T&A ...awwww crud this movie just sucks, its boring, hokey and incredibly silly. If you are still thinking "I want to see this movie" then please do it may appeal to your intellect.
Sliding Doors (1998)
What if they made this movie with more depth?
A very confusing movie to watch up until she gets her hair cut, the scenes flowed together rather nicely but it seemed as if the movie was all based on a one liner ultimately taken from a famous comedy troupe "Monty Python". The whole time I was watchin the movie I was thinking to myself "why doesn't this woman just kick some ass!!!" she's baited several times by his BF's 'mistress' andso many times I would have just loved to see her toss his stuff out onto the street and say "get lost" . For the people who actually enjoy formulaic (is that a word?) movies then you might enjoy this one a lot.
Candyman: Day of the Dead (1999)
How could anyone condone this Schlock??
This movie was truly horrible. How anyone could compare this to the other 2 is beyond my scope of imagination. Farewell to the flesh was by FAR the best one of the series as it explained the story behind Candyman very thoroughly. This movie was mindless T&A and nothing more; Donna D. couldn't act her way out of a paper bag with her overacting and inability to wear a BRA!! There's one scene where she thinks her friend is being attacked and I had to laugh cause it sounded so bad (turns out the friend was just 'acting'). The plot was taken almost directly from the last 2 movies, different actors and loads of unnecessary boob shots (I don't think ANYone wore a bra in this movie) The scary and ominous voice of Tony Todd has been replaced with what sounds like a cheap effect discarded from Lion King. The only thing that I can credit this movie for is the gore, it lived up to its predecessors. There's also one scene during the festival when a cop is running after Donna, it seems reminiscent of another movie....oh yeah Double Jeapordy!! wow where do these people get their ideas, I sincerely hope this is the LAST Candyman movie cause they destroyed it with this one.
The Prophecy (1995)
Christopher Walken rules!!!
I remember renting this movie with my friends without knowing what to expect and what I saw was nothing short of awesome!!. Then I saw it again and got more of the plot and little things, it incorporated a lot of neat religious stuff that I never saw the first time. Lets face it, Christopher Walken is just plain freaky and he plays Gabriel the archangel that went against God as he calls humans "monkeys". If you love Christopher Walken's work definately go see this and Prophecy 2
The Omen (1976)
Freaky but...
WHO NAMES THEIR KID DAMIEN?!?!? that's my only beef with this movie. It's an old movie, obvious by the quality of film and clothing styles! but a great story nonetheless. There aren't many movies that give me that "creepy" feeling but this is definately one of them. My friend says that "religious" movies are really great horror movies and I tend to agree (Exorcist, Stigmata, Prophecy) I also think I understand more about my Christian roots with these and other movies of this type. BTW AWESOME Decapitation scene you totally don't expect, makes this movie even more worth seeing
