Highly entertaining!
26 July 2001
This is one of the better classic Edgar Wallace movies from the German series - it features all basics for a highly enjoyable Wallace crime flic movie way back from the 60ies: Although his majesty, Mr. Kinski, is missing you still have young Joachim 'Blacky' Fuchsberger, starring once again as the typical clever American 'womanizer', you have young Eddi Arendt in his best (and just as well typical) role ever - the cool, sophisticated British butler - and you have (not so young anymore) Lowitz as the melancholic yet very 'dry' ironic (and thus: highly entertaining) police investigator. Furthermore you'll get offered a freakish and very campy 'evil guy' behind a frog mask (hence the movie's title!), you'll get a crazed-out swinging soundtrack, classic b-movie action scenes, partly filmed out off the wildest perspectives (please remind the time of its origin!), yelling scream queens, and on and on... All those ingredients get shaken well up in a sweet tastin' cocktail of pure German Edgar Wallace campyness - highly recommended!!

What an absolute piece of crap !!!
23 April 2001
This little, well, "gem" of horror flics absolutely deserves its bottom place here in imdb.com! There is nothing really cool about it: the actors are bad, not in a "trashy" way, but simply bad to the bone. The plot is absolutely boring, there is by no means anything like atmosphere or thrills! It's just plain boring, most parts are only ridicolous, especially the goblins! And be warned: I can get MUCH entertainment out of crappy shit like BLOOD FEAST or LA NOCHE DEL TERROR CIEGO ... but I still dislike this muddy piece of celluloid!!!

There are better "Coens" to explore...
8 November 2000
Well, somehow I don't feel that comfortable about writing this comment, especially since the Coen brothers are - in my humble opinion - some of the biggest stars in my personal movie sky, but somehow this movie isn't as cool and great and simply astounding as their other classics like Barton Fink, Blood Simple, Fargo or Lebowski (being all all-time faves of mine). Don't get me wrong - it's not bad, it's definitely. fun to watch and for sure - since the Coens plain and simple ARE some of the best filmmakers up to date - better as your normal average mainstream movie BUT this movie surely isn't the best try to show someone who NEVER saw a Coen film before since he (or she) won't fall in love with the Coen brothers (or at least with their pearls on celluloid). It's more of an average (although intelligent, of course) comedy movie than the typical Coen genre mix and the little typical Coen gimmicks that make their movies non-mainstream (although covered mostly in the mainstream press/cinemas...that's what I call subversive!) can't be found that much in this movie as in others... good movie, for sure, but not excellent!

Todesspiel (1997 TV Movie)

Well done, but not perfect!
15 July 2000
Since I am really interested in history, I was looking forward to see this documentary. There are many really cool features in it, like mixing the interviews, news features from back then and the "action scenes" but unfortunately there are some missing points! For example, after having seen this documentary one might consider the RAF activists to be complete psychos - what's the worth of a documentary when it can't explain their motivations and goals? It just says, well, they were completely ill in the head and that's it. Not much of a "science way" to explain things... Furthermore, "Todesspiel" shows the suicide of the imprisoned RAF activists right after the "Landshut" gets evicted by special force GSG-9. This is a REAL faux-pas! It was NEVER proven, that those activists committed suicide. On the other hand, there are some "hints" that they might have been executed by police men in their cells. I don't claim to say that THIS is the truth, but at least it was never proven WHO killed those prisoners - whether they were killed by cops or by themselves. All in all it is not THAT bad as it might sound right now, but I think a documentary needs to be authentic, and well, in some ways this documentary just isn't.
