Victor/Victoria (1982)
Fun Every Time!
How many comedies do you know that can still make you laugh every time you see them? I have seen this at least 25 times and still find myself chuckling, chortling, giggling, and snorting, even though I know every line before it's said. It's just that much fun! It is very apparent the cast and crew had great fun making this movie.
A lot of other people have described how great Andrews, Preston, and Garner are in this gem, and they are all right! Not to be overlooked, however, is Lesley Ann Warren. I just cannot imagine a better Norma than Lesley Ann Warren. She is simply incredible. The bedroom scene with James Garner is hysterical, her song and dance routine is mesmerizing, and her "WAIT!!! Lock the door!!!" makes me laugh just thinking about it.
Whenever I want to feel good, I put this in the LD play and bask, from beginning to end.
And I agree...WHERE IS THE DVD????
Hanging Up (2000)
The worst movie I have ever seen.
I thought stabbing myself with a blunt knife would have been less painful than watching this movie, and far more entertaining.
If I had known that the people I was at the theater with were hating this movie as much as I was, I would have insisted that we walk out.
I just do not enjoy watching a two-hour family argument.
Not one of the characters had any qualities that I found endearing in the least. Not the self-absorbed sister. Not the self-loathing martyr. Not the ditz. And certainly not the angry, bitter, alcoholic father.
Gattaca (1997)
Every once in a while, a movie strikes me
Every once in a while, I see a movie I know I will never be able to forget. When I was a child, it was "War of the Worlds," because it terrified me. When I was a young adult, it was "Defending You Life," because it made me think about how fear gets in the way of life.
Gattaca is another of these movies that will live in me forever. It reminds me that I don't have to simply live life as I am constantly being told it should be.
And, yes, the tone, the look, the sounds, the loneliness one might feel as one attempts to walk his own path... these are perfect.
This movie has a number of interesting messages.
