Predator (1987)
Can't watch it enough!
There are plenty of good movies out there. But there's not many that you can enjoy over and over again like Predator. The cast of characters is perfect! And the nonchalant manner that the Predator picks them off with is truly worth seeing many times. I put this one up there with The Thing and Aliens for best alien flick ever! Watch it ASAP! And see those guys "... dig in like an Alabama tick."
Frequency (2000)
A great movie without any hype
When I saw Frequency this past weekend, it was my first trip to the theaters in 5 months. This is due to the extremely lame selection of movies that the year 2000 has offered so far. But boy am I glad I chose this one! And the thing is, I'd never even heard of it till I read about it on imdb last week.
It was nice to see a movie that focused more on quality than on marketing and special effects. If more movies did that, the world would be a much happier place. I don't have anything else to add to these other comments except if you are a father or a son, see this movie! It will certainly bring a little water to the eyes. 9 out of 10
Quantum Leap: Genesis: Part 1 - September 13, 1956 (1989)
OH BOY... THE BEST OF EM ALL!!
If I had to compose a list of the best TV shows of all time, Quantum Leap would be sitting right on top (with the Simpsons ever so close behind.) Sure there's other good stuff out there, but most every Quantum Leap episode will actually have you feeling good about life. The writing was simply excellent. They combined the perfect mixture of comedy, action, romance, and drama, then blended it all together with actual history. But I believe the key to the show was the underrated Scott Bakula's terrific acting. Just watch any of the reruns on Sci-Fi and you'll see what I mean. It's a real shame that shows like this get cancelled, and shows like Friends don't.
The Quick and the Dead (1995)
Shocking!! This movie is actually good!
Think there's no way that a movie with Sharon Stone playing cowgirl can be good? Yep, that was my first impression, too. But Raimi actually pulls it off. The acting (Hackman, Crowe, and even Dicrapio) is top notch and fits the story well. And there are plenty of other great actors with small parts. And it's really cool how you get to know just enough about each character to make them interesting before... well, they get dead. See this movie, if not for the cool characters, for the amazing camera shots that Raimi comes up with.
