A Film about Lost Faith and Redemption

I first read this novel in 1973. I had read the Exorcist and picked up this book on the strength of Blatty's name. I wasn't sure how to react to it. Being only about 18, I did not see that it had the same themes of lost faith and redemption and giving your life so that another may live. The film itself is a wonderfully made adaptation of that book. This film really has it all - comedy, suspense, action and, yes, something profound to say about the nature of faith. Every role in this film is brilliantly played and will stay in your mind long after the film is over. The standouts are, of course, Stacy Keach (those of us who had seen him in other roles than Mike Hammer already knew he can act - see the hilarious role he plays in the Fox sitcom Titus), Ed Flanders, Scott Wilson, Jason Miller, Neville Brand (the straight-laced Major Groper) and Steve Sandor (the biker who torments Wilson and Keach's characters). Also look for Richard Lynch as Sandor's sidekick. This is a film to savor and watch again to pick up all the nuances. It requires patience and effort, as all great movies do.

One of a Kind

I saw this movie on television as a child. After almost 40 years, it still stays in my mind, and I can, even now, remember certain scenes, especially the ending. To me, this is what movies are all about. I don't own a DVD player and, unfortunately, this movie seems to be available only on DVD. Ah well, I suppose I'll have to buy a DVD player soon. Give yourself a rare treat and watch this movie. I guarantee you'll be moved. You may even find yourself with a tear in your eye.

Horrifying

I saw this movie when it was first released; at this time, almost 35 years ago. I was all of 11 years old and found it horrifying. It is the only movie I have ever seen where I had to leave the theater during certain scenes. I doubt now that I would be that scared, but I have nevery forgotten this move. I have never seen it since that time. I cannot find it on video, nor can I even find a review of it in any of the ubiquitous movie-review catalogs. It's as if this movie never existed. If anyone knows anything at all about this movie, I would appreciate very much hearing from you.
