All in the Family (1971)
Timeless
Whether you agreed or disagreed with the blustery Archie Bunker, he was seldom at a loss for words.
Actually, some episodes in this series may be a good teaching tool in schools since they give opportunities for discussions about bigotry, prejudice, racism, class, politics, love, hate, right, wrong etc. and how it changed (and still continues to change) us.
Many episodes left viewers with a message that is just as important today as it was 30+ years ago.
Remember the episode where an old man (played by Burt Mustin) ran away from the nursing home because he thought no one cared?
or another episode where Archie's war buddy comes to town to visit, but doesn't have time for his own son?
and the time Edith's friend got promoted over Archie at work?
Yes, folks. Pay attention. It's still out there.
Sanford and Son (1972)
As Fred might say "That's H-U-M-O-R, period"
Easily one of THE greatest shows on TV. All the characters contributed to the flavor of the show; it really WAS magic how everything came together so perfectly without getting bogged down or off track. Racial and personal insults flowed freely but they lacked venom- they were just loaded with laughs. Now really---how seriously could ANYONE take an insult at that level? At one time or another almost all the characters had an insult hurled at them, only to toss it right back in Fred's face; the show never really seemed to have a cruel intent- just a rather ordinary family with rather ordinary friends caught up in zany schemes and predicaments that brought out the best, worst, and funniest in all!
The Magnetic Monster (1953)
great movie just don't expect to 'see' any monster
this film will appeal to the sci-fi buff that enjoys the type of movies with scientific and electronic equipment and the hunt for a radioactive isotope on the loose. well produced, well acted and good script! AND a good ending.
The Atomic City (1952)
Worth viewing as an early 'cold war' movie
Just watched this movie and it's not bad; there are a few tense moments and not a lot of long dialog strings. Comes off as fairly intelligent; fastpaced almost like 'documentary style'. This movie will evoke some nostalgia and a bit of cold war paranoia with cars, street scenes, and life in the 50's. The acting is fairly solid and at 85 minutes run time it goes by at a good pace. An atomic era film buff shouldn't miss this one.
