The Truth About Charlie (2002)
Forget what people say, this movie is great!
Gus Van Sant made a great remake of Psycho because it's carbon copy of the original. But what was the point.
That said, remakes should be different while still retaining the spirit of the original. The film isn't as funny or clever as the original, but still adds some cool scenes. People are complaining about Mark Wahlberg isn't Cary Grant. Yes, Cary Grant was incredibly suave and debonair. That doesn't mean that Wahlberg's character has to be. He just needs to be likeable and mysterious, not James Bond.
I was always wanted to see the original remade because it's a hidden gem and hopefully more people will rent the original.
Year of the Comet (1992)
very underrated film
The Year of the Comet is in a genre that is the perfect date movie. It is a romantic comedy that is in the guise of an action thriller.
This was William Goldman's first original script since Butch Cassidy. The film even features two actors from the Bond films: Art Malik and Louis Jourdan.
Go rent this movie if you want a surprising, unexpected treat.
Panic Room (2002)
Very intense! If you want to be thrilled, GO SEE THIS MOVIE!
The Panic Room is THE most edge of the seat thriller I've seen in a long time. Gory horror movies don't scare or enthrall me. But movies like this and Speed do.
In recent years, thrillers have relied less on suspense and tried to outdo themselves with over-the-top endings and plot twists like Se7en, Usual Suspects, Spanish Prisoner, Sixth Sense, and Unbreakable.
Writer David Koepp spent the most of the 90's successfully adapting other thrillers like Jurassic Park, the first Mission: Impossible, Carlito's Way, and Stir of Echoes. While his originals, Trigger Effect and Snake Eyes, were just so so. Here, he sets up a wild premise, intriguing characters, and some very funny moments.
By now, director David Fincher has proven that he is by the best thriller director period. Se7en is by far the creepiest film of the 90's. The Game is a great ride and that just keeps on twisiting and keeps you guessing.
Panic Room's key moments are when the viewer is kept waiting for what will happen next. The filmmakers have set the film with some terrific rules. The burglars aren't going on anywhere and there is no outside communication. Then, they add on the complications.
