August Rush (2007)
As a music lover, I had a great time
I watched this movie on the plane, hence some of the magic was lost on the poor headphones and crappy display, but nonetheless I loved this movie. I intended to watch it for Keri Russell at first, but was surprised by the theme which hit a nerve with me.
Like another reviewer said the movie does require the viewer to be willing to believe in the magical powers of music in order to be engulfed. It took me on a wonderful journey throughout and made me realize how interesting classical music can be.
However, if you abhor orchestra music and don't think that there are any supernatural power in music, I strongly urge you not to waste your time on this movie. The plot would become really thin in their absence.
Keinohrhasen (2007)
*yawn* what a lame movie
I went to see this movie, having heard nothing about it before. I did not even know how Nora Tsch... is. Anyway, it starts out rather amusingly, but keeps on getting worse and worse: it is extremely predictable and most of the time we are to admire how perfect Til Schweiger is. In fact, I am asking myself why they chose 'Keinohrhasen' as a title instead of 'Til Schweiger is awesome' or something similar.
I really do not care if movies are realistic, but at least they need to be plausible and this movie fails. We have Mr Ueber-Cool Ludo, who does mind blackmailing people left and right in order to get his story. He treats women like crap and apparently has a history of abusive behavior. However, despite all these traits, he is perfect with children as well?! The way he acts around kids and his skills in handling them is in no way consistent with his other behavior.
Du gehörst mir (2007)
*yawn*
After being hyped up quite a bit through the local media, I decided to see this movie on TV. The plot itself appears somewhat appealing. It has intrigue, paranoia, fear, love and revenge. The partially horrendous acting and overzealous wanna-be artsy movie composition was what really killed it though.
The main actor was not really getting his anger across, despite doing his best to scream a lot. Surely, he did seem a bit insane and conveyed the control-freak type reasonably well, but it just was not convincing. At times, I wasn't sure whether to be afraid of him or just laugh in his face for trying too hard to be scary and intimidating.
And it appears that the director really wanted to make sure that everyone knows how artsy he is: let's throw in long, silent scenes with eerily lit rooms, the main actress swimming with loud music blaring to symbolize her mental change and random white-screen cuts... yep he did fill each and every cliché.
