Very disappointing...
1 November 2010
I was pretty surprised to see this movie get a score in the mid 6 level, I would've guessed 4 or 5. I watched this movie only because (a) it was on late night on cable and nothing else to watch, and (b) it was from Mike Judge. I'm a big fan of Office Space, but maybe that was part of the problem, that I was expecting something of that caliber. This is definitely not up to par, I think that any of Office Space's worst jokes is easily funnier than one of Extract's best jokes, if there is such a thing. Where to begin...

I am also a fan of Justin Bateman, he was the man on Arrested Development, and had a couple of other good roles lately, but really he just flat out disappointed in this one. No emotion whatsoever guy. Mila Kunis was equally disappointing, though it was mostly her character / story and not her acting, it basically went no where. The story is awkward and trying to be funny, but, I dunno... the best analogy I can think of is having a magician on stage pull a rat out of his hat and expect an applause afterward, only to hear crickets instead. The only possible reason I can think of to recommend this movie to someone, and mind you this is a pretty sad reason, is to watch Affleck play a mildly funny / not-give-a-sh!t type of character. Couple of chuckles, but nothing great.

Last but not least, a couple of comments to others from reading the forums: 1) I cannot possibly imagine why anyone would want to watch this more than once, 2) Seeing people defend this movie, claiming that they are either too dumb to "get it" or that the movie must be made for people of higher intellect.... seriously? This one?

Dracula 2000 (2000)
Worth seeing but not great...
23 December 2000
I love vampire movies - whenever one comes out I have to see it, no matter how bad I know it's going to be. In this case, I was very curious - it looked like it had potential from the previews, but I knew better than to keep my hopes up.

This movie DID have potential. The cast of characters was good, especially considering it had no big hollywood names, and they all performed wonderfully. Some of the special effects were nice, but some were downright inappropriate (meaning this isn't the matrix). The movie had a nice flow moving along during the beginning and throughout the middle, especially with the gorgeous women portraying the seductive evil vamps (Jennifer Esposito was my favorite, what am I saying? She's STILL my favorite! >=), but I guess the problem I had was with the ending, and the manner in which (at least in my opinion) they rushed through the movie... They should have taken their time telling the story and getting to explore this world more, but instead it felt too familiar like all the other recent vampire movies - they make it look too easy to kill vampires - A problem arises, and they always manage to solve the problem all before breakfast time lol. Well don't wanna spoil anything, but let's just say I can't imagine anyone who would actually like the ending - felt too... typical? I dunno... Worth seeing for anyone as big a vampire fan as I am though might wanna catch the matinee

Raising Cain (1992)

Not as bad as they say...
18 January 2000
I feel that I have to defend this movie a little... I agree that it wasn't a full force De Palma movie but I definitely think it deserves recognition. This movie had both its good and its bad but I felt that the story is the reason I liked it, though not many others seem to agree I guess it's because of the acting job... not horrible mind you but can be a little cheezy at times and makes it seem that the story would be better off on paper than on the big screen. I would also have to agree that John Lithgow is a better comedian than he is a psycho (though it's fun to watch him be both LOL). The movie also had a cool twist that fans of Sixth Sense might like though it wasn't delivered with nearly as much force and was kinda hinted slowly instead. I still say it's a good movie worth checking out for anyone that loves a good psychological thriller though watch it knowing that the story is the best part and not the special effects or anything else.

Widow's Kiss (1996 TV Movie)
Worth watching but not the rental price...
21 December 1999
I happen to catch this flick on HBO one night, and gotta that it really wasn't too bad and actually had a pretty decent story(also kept enough interest for me to watch the whole thing), and though Beverly D'Angelo was beautiful she unfortunately was unconvincing as the evil seductress... then again alot of the actors were perhaps with the exception of MacKenzie Astin. The story was better than your average mystery/suspense and covered up the mediocre acting jobs, so not eveyone will be disappointed but then again not everyone will be satisfied. My suggestion is to catch it while it's on tv one quiet night.

The Hunted (1995)

Awesome ninja action movie!
17 September 1999
As a martial artists practicioner as well as a study of some Japanese culture, it is VERY refreshing to find a movie that doesn't rely on myth and rumors to depict the the typical "ninja", but instead one that has obviously done its homework in studying the ways of the ninja as well as the samaurai. For instance the scene where Kinjo stabs one of his fellow ninjas with his sword, the ninja is seen grasping the blade not for intent to stop the blade but to wipe the blade clean afterwards so that there is no blood!! Cool!! Also i found it kinda funny that Kinjo (John Lone) portrayed the Last Emporer, which also had Joan Chen in it - bit of trivia for you.

Definitely worth renting - especially for all you that love the Japanese culture as much as I do.
