The Breakfast Club (1985)
All new! Teen Angst!
A totally flawed, sophomoric, shallow, immature, naive film. But, totally revolutionary so I gave it a ten. Why the **** not? When I was a teen, watching this movie was great therapy. I thought, hey someone gets what I'm about. We are all the same. I weight was lifted from my shoulders briefly. No other film has had that effect on me. Watching it now I can see it's faults. But then, I wouldn't trust a teenager who didn't have 'em.
UHF (1989)
Critic's Wind
A well known Washington movie critic said that you would only laugh at this movie if you were the kind of person who wore a bib, and laughed at a sudden gust of wind. Well wind has a touch of life to it. And that makes me laugh. And this movie has great energy to it. And IT made me laugh. So what if I tend to drool. UHF is one one of those mood shifting films. Leave your brain behind and you'll go from depressed to high and happy. Bring it with and you might end up suicidal. Oh well. That's weird Al for you.
Vanilla Sky (2001)
Open your mind
A lot of reviewers for this movie have said that it's not believable. Well was the Matrix or the Truman show believable. This film is a fantasy film, and if you watch it with said expectations, you'll have a really good time.
It does drag at times but the pay off at the end is definetly worth it. Cameroon Crowe always stimulates your imagination and gets you feeling warm and fuzzy inside. That doesn't change here. Infact this is his most mature film yet. Less fluffy then his others, like the ultimate episode of the twighlight zone.
So go see it if you're bored. It's not a waste of time.
Waking Life (2001)
Weird, Wonderful but not for all.
Weird, Wonderful but not for all. Willy Wiggins wonders through a beautifully animated half real world talking to people about life. This is a really thought provoking film if you can stay with it. And if you can't then at least you can appreciate the beauty of the art work. Definitely a film you need to see twice to fully appreciate.
However, those who expect an easy popcorn movie should look else where. You have to approach this movie as if it were a lecture. See it to be educated as well as entertained and it could change your life. See it for a bit of light fun and you will probably end up bored.
Flashback (1990)
Warm Stuff
This film is light, fluffy, whimsical warm stuff. The ideas that drive it are cliched but that does not mean they are wrong. Watch if you have nothing better to do on a Sunday afternoon or if you were once a hippy too. For a plot description look at the other comments.
The Sterling Chase (1999)
An Absolute Stunner!
An Outstanding, gripping story. Played with heart wrenching authority by the actors. To discover the meaning of life, watch this college movie. Kids fall in love. Kids fall out of love. Kids compete to win an award (The Sterling Chase). This is the ultimate anti 80's film. Sort of an anti Wall Street. Go see it now!
