The Da Vinci Code (2006)
It was really GOOD!!!!!
I thought the movie was Great! After reading all the negative reviews I was afraid the movie was going to be a flop. The book was fantastic and now that I have seen the movie I can say the movie was fantastic too. The acting was good, the movie moved along just like the book and I couldn't see any deviation from the book. Most of the people who came out of the theater before me had only good things to say about it and as I left I heard people telling the next group going in that the movie was good. I still can't understand all the negative hype. I understand the religious issues but in my opinion if you are grounded in your faith, as I am, then this is just an entertaining movie not something to shatter your Christian faith. With that said I would recommend this movie. If you like a good murder mystery then go and see it. But What If????????????????????????
Scream 3 (2000)
Disappointing!!!!!
Scream 3 started out well but when it came to the climax it fizzled as once more the writer used one of Hollywoods worn out reasons for murder, mommy loved you best!!! Oh please. Couldn't they have been a bit more original? Couldn't they have used anything but that one. I saw it coming a mile off and yet was hoping that I was wrong. Sorry I wasn't wrong. Then the actual ending was bogus too. There were two killers in both Scream 1 and 2 but not in 3. In my mind here is how it should have ended. Dewey and Gail do there little engagement scene and disappear into the house. Sid comes up with the dog and walks into the kitchen closes the door and proceeds to the living room where she finds Dewey and Gail butchered. As the look of shock floods her face we see Ghost Face appear in front of her and we hear that familiar voice say, "Hello Sidney, we always comes in two's remember?" and with that he or she leaps onto Sid and stabs her to death, roll credits............ That would have been the perfect ending at least after the bogus, brother didn't get mommies love and had to kill mommy and all of little sisters friends. Ho Hum!!!!!!!!!! I guess we the public can't have everything.
Shrek 2 (2004)
Not as good, really, really.......
*************POSSIBLE SPOILERS**************************
Ok, I'll admit that perhaps I shouldn't have watched Shrek the night before and yet I don't think it really swayed my feeling. This one just wasn't as funny or entertaining. I found myself wondering when it was going to be funny in a few places where it was obviously dragging. Maybe I was expecting to much. Now for the possible spoiler part. The Fairy Godmother is annoying!!!! About halfway through the movie, without any prompting from me, because I don't talk during a movie, my 8 year old son made the comment, "Does anyone have a tranquilizer gun?" This was after a particularly annoying scene with the Fairy Godmother. I knew she was annoying me but for an 8 year old to put it into words, well I felt it was a confirmation of how I was seeing this Character. I gave the movie 6 out of 10 and feel that was being generous.
Van Helsing (2004)
In the Minority again!!
Well after reading several reviews prior to seeing VanHelsing I was set to be disappointed, I wasn't, I liked the movie. I don't know what everyone else was expecting but I was entertained, I liked the story, I thought the acting was good. True there was allot of CG but I've come to expect that in every movie any more. The days of a movie with acting, and real actors is a thing of the past. Now we get CG. I figure you can either live with it or stop expecting things you know you aren't going to get. When I go to a movie I want to be entertained. Van Helsing entertained me for two hours. I guess when you don't expect a deep, morally moving story line, you aren't disappointed, of course I read nothing but bad reviews about The Passion of Christ too. Perhaps we have to many Siskel and Ebert's out there!!!
The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003)
Impressive!
I wasn't disappointed. True it was long but having read the books several times over the years I still marvel that Mr. Jackson was able to tell the story in three movies. Having read the books I can see where things have been left out, for this reason I buy the extended versions when they come out on DVD. I can't wait to buy the extended version of this one. My wife reserved comment all the way home and I thought perhaps she didn't like it. She has never read the books and loved the first two movies. When she finally commented she said she wasn't sure if she liked it or not. After a few minutes she said, "To be honest I think my problem is the story is over and there won't be any more movies." I don't think I can give it a better tribute than that.
Identity (2003)
Finally something original!!!
I didn't see this movie till it came out on DVD and so I've had the pleasure of reading so many negative critiques of it that I thought I would be disappointed but I wasn't. Finally something original comes out of Hollywood. I can't believe it. After the third installment of the Scream Trilogy where they used the same wore out story line I didn't think it was possible for Hollywood to come up with anything that hadn't been used a thousand times before, but with Identity they actually delivered. I really enjoyed this movie. I have always loved movies where there is a mystery to figure out and this one had a good one. I thought the acting was good including John Cusack's. I give this movie 8 out of 10 easy and will see it again.
The Changeling (1980)
One of the Best Ghost Movies
I thought this was one of the best Ghost Movies I have ever watched. I saw it back in 1980 when it came out and it scarred me then. I still get a bit spooked when I watch it. I usually like to turn off all the lights and watch it alone, it is great. I thought Scott did a great job as well as the others. In my opinion this is one of the greats in the horror genre.
The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002)
Excellent Movie, yet disappointing.....
***************Possible Spoilers****************** Well I was excited to see this one after all the positive things I had read about it. The truth is I would have been 100% satisfied if I hadn't read the books so many times. I read an article in the local paper two days before seeing the movie and in the article it stated that Mr. Jackson had done some things with the characters that would probably cause some problems with the hard core fans of the book. The article was right. Though I don't consider myself a fanatical fan I was hoping Mr. Jackson wouldn't toy with the characters to much. I was wrong, in some places he had the characters acting so unlike themselves in the book it was disappointing. I guess he had his reasons for doing so but in the beginning he stated he would be true to the book and well he let this fan down. I also didn't like scenes that he made which didn't even happen in the book. Oh well I guess that is show biz. I hope the next one doesn't deviate like this one did. I still have to admit it was good. I give it an A. It should have been an A+!
Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones (2002)
Not as bad as I was expecting...
After "The Phantom Menace" I was expecting another movie with one dimensional characters who had no feelings and a confusing story line but I was pleasantly surprised. I thought George tied up allot of loose ends although I still have many questions and wonder how he will answer them all in Episode III. So far Episode I & II are good enough to keep me hanging in there for Round III.
