Species II (1998)
Don't walk...Run from this movie!
Quite possibly the worst movie ever made. Cardboard characters, laughable plot, bad acting, cheesy effects, etc., etc. You know a movie's truly awful when an oh-so-lovely and gratuitously nude Natasha Henstridge can't save it. Worse than a waste of money, it's a complete waste of time.
Bandits (1997)
Wow! Great music, fun movie!
This movie has a great soundtrack -- actually written and performed by the cast. Jazzee (Tabatabai) is an amazing song writer, and cute, too. Coco Krebitz and Katja Riemann are lovely and quite talented. Drags a little in the middle, but other than that it's a fun film worth seeing (I've seen it four times myself). Summary: Appealing cast, great music, terrific cinematography, clever dialogue. Four out of five stars from me!
Stargate SG-1 (1997)
Well done
As with "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "Highlander: The Series," this latest movie spin-off series is much better than the original movie. It is a shame that the show's producers don't make better use of the Showtime venue by adding more realistic "adult language" and nudity, like "The Outer Limits." But other than those shortcomings, it's quite a good show, though I keep thinking of its similarity to "Sliders" whenever they end up on some world similar to Earth.
Earth 2 (1994)
Why did NBC cancel this terrific show?!
This was a great show -- thank you SciFi channel for saving it from oblivion. Great character development and cast. But what a cruel joke to play on the audience by ending the series with a cliff-hanger! I am so disappointed that we will never know Devin's fate or solve the mysteries of the Human/Terrian connection.
Total Recall 2070 (1999)
Misses the mark
Although it tries to be "Blade Runner", Michael Easton is no Harrison Ford. Probably due to the lifeless direction of Mario Azzopardi, et. al., the series is a cure for insomnia. Karl Pruner's "Farve" tries hard to be ST:TNG's Mr. Data, but his character lacks Data's depth and 'humanity'.
Having seen every episode so far, I still have no idea what the show is about, other than that this amoral company has some insidious plan to take over the world. But there is no life in the show. And no humor. The one character we, the audience, care about - Olivia Hume - has almost nothing to do, which is a shame because the lovely and talented Cynthia Preston is the best thing about the show.
Although the sets are interesting in a Blade Runner-esque sort of way, the lighting is so overdone that everything looks flat and fake. I could go on for pages, but I think I've made my point.
