The Green Slime (1968)
Cousin of the "Thing"
The Green Slime is one of those good bad movies. Sort of a cross between the monster in 'the thing' and 'the blob', the green slime is an over-the-top multi-eyed monster with a bad attitude and electric tenticles. To make matters worse, every time the people on space station gamma turn around, there are another 50 of them. Throw in a childish rivalry between the two guys who command the space station, and it makes for a great movie that is fast paced and thoroughly enjoyable. Who needs computer generated realism when you've got a professor who tries to reason with the green slimes (unsuccessfully, of course). My brother had to leave the theatre when he saw this movie, although he was only 9 at the time. The song 'green slime' is pretty catchy, too, although dated.
Funky Squad (1995)
Funny but Painfull
Funky Squad is a hilarious take-off on the Mod Squad. This group of 'cool' ('70s cool) detectives use their street sense and their ability to speak the language of the young generation to tackle some of Melbourne's toughest crimes. Their 'with-it' attitudes are exaggerated by all the other characters who are completely straight-lace. Pancho, the member who doesn't speak, invariably gets asked, 'hey, why don't you ever say anything', to which Stix, the member who has a 'afro', replies,'you wouldn't say too much either if you'd taken a bullet in the tongue!' Anyway, I thought that it was hilarious, and worth watching. Too bad that there weren't more episodes!
