Valmont (1989)
It is so DIFFERENT
from Dangerous Liasons. Almost the same plot - and two polar implementations. Friers' version is refined: dialogues - that is what makes his version considered the best. Forman's version is not explicit. You cannot say this charcter is bad, this one is good (as Dangerous Liasons so straightforwardly suggests). If D.L. is a pure, cold and cruel stylization, Valmont is tender, fragile, but not less cruel reality.
If one version existed without the other, we would never be able to appreciate its beauty.
And I agree with all other comments about Valmont.
However, Friers' version is not less passionate than Valmont - it's achieved by the contrast of its such a real and tragic ending with all previous cold, pragmatic and cruel games. They thought they were playing games, and paid with their lives.
Dom, kotoryy postroil Svift (1982)
Philosophical masterpiece
It's an immaculate, vivid and breathtaking implementation of Swift's romanticism. It's worth every second of watching. Zakharov at his best!!!
Tot samyy Myunkhgauzen (1980)
Think.
What is true? Reality? Imagination? Do we make choices in life to be like everyone else? Is it Worth it?
Sobaka na sene (1978)
Immaculate and stylish musical
Entertaining and fun, plus incredible acting.
Cin cin (1991)
Two Thumbs UP in European Comedy!
Warm, kind, but hysterical sense of humour. Life is full of disasters, and people are so vulnerable - but it'll not be that bad if you don't take yourself too seriously. You can even have a whole lot of FUN.
No crashing cars, no monsters, no killings, no cash-hunting - it's just so human! Must see.
The Last Temptation of Christ (1988)
This is my favorite film
It's much more than a plot. It's a story about everyone of us making choices, deciding what's illusion and what's real. You can plunge into this film as in oblivion and forget about the time and reality. Hopefully it will help you look into the depths of your consciousness.
Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb (1964)
An absolute must see for thinking people
Style is so polished up that the idea is transparent. Witty, ironic, elegant and strong in its message. Must see.
