Very good early 80s Teen black comedy
14 August 2021
Warning: Spoilers
In this movie you have one of the worst film villains of all time, Karen. He pays for her freaking abortion and stabs him right in the back. Sadly this isn't all that terribly unusual in real life relationships either. As many have said, the ending is an absolute bolt from the blue. That took a lot of guts to actually go with.

Really terrible.

Warning: Spoilers
This was.an unusually bad movie. The #1 sin to me, among many dozens, was the Katee Sackhoff/Term Dark Fate clone girl shooting the guy in the leg almost immediately after the whole team goes in. Scarifies a teammate right away and they're just supposed to 'trust her'? The hell man.

Not the best

Warning: Spoilers
AI outsmarts 2 dipshits and runs amok. Nuff said. Yeah, it outsmarts both of the really unlikable leads. Yeah this movie is dry and tedious overall. I can barely recommend it for a sci-fi purist. If this is a vision of the singularity it'll be an easy trip for the AI to take us down.

Sadly it does not really execute much on a smart premise. I'll still give it a 7. I can't really think of that much more to say about this movie.

What else can I say? It's not that clever by half. Her was a much better look at how humans and AI can interact.

Love Happens (2009)

Pretty insulting and contrived
19 September 2009
I was fairly surprised at just how unpleasant this movie was. The only things I liked about it were Eckhart, some nice visuals, and the ever so brief cameo of Gaeta from Battlestar Galactica.

About halfway through I started thinking 'this has the most product placements since the remake of The Day the Earth Stood Still'. Then they went to Home Depot to 'cure' a guy with a shopping spree. There's hardly any romance in it at all, but a ton of advertising and even a band I never heard of is given a lot of screen time that felt awkward.

Aniston looked either near asleep or downright miserable during almost every scene. There are badly edited scenes like when they see her mother; it had zero point.

I especially recommend that anyone dealing with any real emotional trauma avoid this one. The cheap shots and ridiculously bland advice given will only make someone feel worse.

A masterpiece, but needs more than one viewing
14 March 2008
The first time I watched it, I was taken aback by the brutality and seemingly over the top violence and so on. I enjoyed the suspense elements though, which are about the best 'jump out of your seat' experience on Blu-ray with lossless sound. I got lost towards the end and it ended up making me think this perhaps was overrated very badly.

I watched it again with an older person today, and they identified a lot with the Jones character. I started to as well. I was starting to think that Anton and Ed Tom were maybe the same ala Fight Club.. But after enough though, they are not. This is simply a multi-level story of insane violence and quick kills, while Jones is outside it, aged and ready to retire. Even if he does, he still has his fears and nightmares.

There's a good style lately, Departed and this. On the surface they're just a violent mess, and are treated as such. Deep down, there's enough to watch these movies many, many times. Soemtimes you need to watch a movie more than once to catch it all. Usually those are better movies, like Departed before this. On the second view, it's clear this is, like Departed, is a modern classic.

Not good
31 July 2007
Warning: Spoilers
This movie is being shown over and over on cable lately, so..

There is no excuse for these 2 attractive women to fight over either Luke Wilson or the equally vapid 'villian' in this movie. The female actresses are very cute, and that's the only reason to watch this movie. I suppose it is 'funny' that Luke's even uglier/dorkier/stupider friend is around, but well, that is what we get.

Neither of the female leads would ever, EVER talk to any of the males in this movie for more than 5 minutes. What we get is them sobbing and crying and fighting and so on over 2 guys that were best described in Friday the 13th 4. Dead *@$#

Very good
3 September 2005
This movie is flat out entertaining. Politics aside, it's just amazing how he shows that he blew some interviews, and made a film in a land where the fraud Michael Moore is a hero. It's a reverse psychology movie, with a provocative title. Guess what? Michael Moore *does* hate the America that exists now. Moore wants a Candian system where endless gun laws and endless regulations control everyone.

Wilson delivers an entertaining and thought provoking counter of Bowling for Columbine. It doesn't have the much in regards to F/911, except to show people that were used in attack fashion interviews.

I am just thrilled that the tables were turned, a chubby white guy with the opposite political values of Moore, making a great movie that's the equal of any of Moore's works.

Hard to explain
25 June 2005
400+ reviews, I hope I can add something new. The magical nature of this film is beyond what is normally ever seen.

Hollywood does not go into imagination and emotion such as this. They simply do not present someone with a good heart that loves people unconditionally.

Above all, directors do not take magical steps as when the play transforms into real life several times. A typical movie would not fly out from a stage into the audience with turns and twists. A typical movie just does not cross the border between reality in a living room and the openness of the mind's eye.

What really hit me was the ease of movement between the real and sad world into Neverland and the wonder that can be obtained.

The blame-America first
13 February 2003
And other assorted leftwing nutballs are out in force. Thanks moore, for making a movie where the rest of the world can bash America.. Just what we needed: A fact-free, opinion-filled leftwing political bag of trash.

Hey rest of the world.. Worry about your own damn problems.

Trek 3, the best of the odds
17 January 2003
Star Trek 3 is a fine film. The FX are absolutely top notch. The emotional story line of Kirk's son is complete. You must remember this is really the middle of the 'Genesis trilogy' (2-4). It's not as good as 2, but on par or better than 4.

Jurassic Park (1993)

One of the greats
17 October 2000
One thing I will never ever forget is a wonderful day in late June 1993. This is one of the few times a movie has ever lived up to my full expectations, and then swept past them.

I was pumped from the beginning. It was the first full digital movie I had seen, and it was one of the first period. The great DTS then THX logos started things off. I could not have prepared myself for the sound of the gasp at the first CGI dino shown early in the movie in full daylight. I've never experienced such a thrill, of seeing FX unimaginable at the time.

The entire audience was stunned. I've never before or since heard a gasp like that generated by any movie. Thank you Spielberg, it's a memory I'll always cherish.
