Ahsoka: Part Three: Time to Fly (2023)
Too much fan service and nothing much else
I watched this and when complete, I wondered what actually happened. I did not see anything that actually moved the story forward or developed the characters. And the pace is so awfully slow that I wondered if I missed anything. So I watched again with the same outcome.
Summary like the first two episodes.
1. Visuals: terrific.
2. Fan service: great.
3. Pace: dead slow with long gaps in dialogue and long slow walking periods.
4. Direction: none.
5. Rosario Dawson: only good actor so far.
6. Supporting actors? Seem cartoonish and weak.
As a side note. I watched all three episodes on 1.5 speed and missed nothing. The whole series is weak and lacks any substance.
IMHO.
Ahsoka (2023)
Too much fan service, writing was weak
I have to admit that I was really looking forward to this show. So much that I waited up until it came online. However the dialog is very weak it appears to be written for a child. They're spending way too much time linking rebels with the Clone Wars and other Star Wars stories. Twenty minutes in and they already have two MacGuffins.
On the positive side, the visuals are very detailed and the story overall is good. Considering how little Disney has accommodated the fans in the past I think they have overdone it in this. The pace is very slow as well and could have been done in far less time.
I look forward to seeing more episodes to see if the writing gets better.
Star Trek: Picard: Watcher (2022)
Downhill quickly
Wow. How can you cram so many political issues into one star trek episode? Just run out of good material to write about.
1. Homelessness
2. Climate Change
3. Immigration
4. Police.
I was amazing they could fit 10 minutes into the actual plot.
This show, like so many is going into my do not watch list.
Star Trek: Picard: The End Is the Beginning (2020)
Wow, did this go off the cliff quickly!
I love Star Trek. I love the premise. But WTF do produces need to slam social agendas down our throats?
The Morning Show (2019)
Deleted after 15 minutes......
I watched the trailer and I was looking forward to a good show.
15 minutes in, I stopped watching and deleted the series from my watch list.
Love Jennifer and Steve, Most of the A list are good actors. Why do you have to build in fake drama and shows of iPhones into every show? Is that what sells? Doesn't matter. Youtube reruns are better than this show.
The Orville: A Happy Refrain (2019)
Great job. One of the best episodes of any show on tv.
Kudos Seth and team. Very good job!! I rewound it many times. It made me laugh and think.
Avengers: Infinity War (2018)
So looking forward to this movie and was disappointed instead.
I read an article of how they approached this movie (direction, writing, etc.) and was really looking forward to it. As I watched the first 2/3, I was excited. WOW, I said, this is going to be great.
Then....
It looks like they wrote the ending to take advantage of the success of Black Panther. And the fate of the universe (which I get confused as to. is it the universe or galaxy, probably does not matter), comes down to hand to hand combat once again. Not smarts, not teamwork, but whether one party can hit hard enough to destroy the other party. Really? That is just sloppy writing.
So, here are a few questions.
1. If Wakanda is so advanced, why don't they give Black Panther outfits to everyone? Why sacrifice all your citizens? (hint: future sales).
2. If the infinity stones are indestructible, they why not wipe the population and then take them?
3. Why do I hope movie making will change?
Oh well. Terrific cinematography. Great story (to the 2/3's mark). And great marketing. This movie will make a bunch of money, but not because it is good.
Downsizing (2017)
Big Disappointment
I remember watching the trailers for this movie and was all excited. Big stars, Matt Damon, Sci Fi, Comedy; what could be better.
When the movie came out, it was gone literally overnight. So I waited for the chance to see it at my local second run theater and.....well, I agree with most other posts.
Up to halfway through the movie, I was enjoying it immensely. Then the story not only took a left turn but to another ball-field, on another planet, in another solar system, in another galaxy.
Maybe the directors cut will be better.
Lucy (2014)
Not a very good movie. Too bad it had a good premise.
I am not sure why some people thought this was a terrific movie. Other than the premise, I cannot see anything good.
The idea that we do not use all of our intelligence is a very good plot device. Of course. Who would not like the idea of being able to think more.
However, the director (mostly an action film director and movies that I like) should never have been given this movie to direct. Lets take a person has tripled their brain capacity, and put them in high heels and have a car chase in downtown Paris. Really?
Morgan Freeman's performance was wasted. His character never really helps at all and just stands around dumbfounded.
I think there must have been 10 writers each writing a different section of the movie. That is the only way you can explain the grossly inconsistencies in the time-line of Lucy's evolution. In one scene, she can control TV's, phones, computers, and lights in Paris from Asia. Then she is on a plane where the is typing on two laptops with one hand each. Why does she even need laptops at this point and couldn't she just interface directly?
Anyway, sorry for the rant, but this movie is even worse than Transcendence.
Privacy (2012)
Terrific movie!!! Must see.
This is one of the best movies I have seen in a long time. Of course, it does not have a Hollywood budget, but the movies is better than most that come from there anyway.
The movie starts quickly and after 90 minutes, I was amazed that I had not checked my watch. Good dialog, good action, love story, friendship, NYC: all included for your pleasure.
This is a story of a app developer (genius) that creates an app to spy on anyone's phone. What is scary as this could be happening now and you would not know it. He randomly chooses a girl in trouble and the movie follows him trying to help her. Not to spoil the ending, but it has a few twists.
Do yourself a favor and go and see this movie. Take a woman as they love it.

American Gangster (2007)
Too long and too predictable
I was excited about seeing this film. After the first hour, I had already figured out the ending and the players, but was shown the character development over and over again. And the ending held no surprises. The only saving grace was was the actors performances. Too bad it was wasted.
Also, did anyone notice the film was speeded up ever so slightly. It would appear the director thought it was too long but did not want to cut any of his precious film. If you notice, all the dialog was slightly higher pitched. Seems like they added an extra frame per second to make the mover shorter (still was too long).
