Daria in 'Is It Fall Yet?' (2000)
My favorite show making my favorite movie! may have spoilers
I have one word for it: wonderful. Being a teen myself I can relate to Daria- an outcast from the "popular people". She realizes people can have depth...that everything doesn't have to revolve around sports or fashion. And now...things changing for her. The closest thing to real life in a cartoon. I didn't really like the part about the art colony, it just kinda bugged me how no one really recognized Jane as an artist. (And weren't her paintings kind of all the same?) I liked the Tom/Daria plot, and how Mystik Spiral got a full video in between the premiere. Freakin' Friends! And I'm glad that Quinn is revealed to be not as shallow as she seems. Great Cameos by Bif Naked, Carson Daly, and Dave Grohl. Two thumbs way up- I wish everything MTV did was this good.
What's Eating Gilbert Grape (1993)
Wonderful and memorable: may contain spoilers
This is a great film...no other film I know of has such memorable characters and lines.
Gilbert supports his whole family, although to cope with family life he has an affair with a married woman.
His life changes when Becky comes to town...
I like the ending, this film is very realistic and has great quotes. My favorite character is Arnie...
10 Things I Hate About You (1999)
All I expected it to be (may contain spoilers)
Yes, movies loosely based on classic literature (even Mr. Shakespeare) can be great. But I think these days they are TOO loosely based on them. I loved this movie, don't get me wrong, but sometimes I can't understand where Mr. Shakespeare's story (The taming of the shrew) is loosely based in this movie. Except, that is, the small references, names, and even a guy dressed as Will himself. I give it an B.
Snitch (1998)
Great movie, but rather intense for my tastes (warning, may contain spoilers)
The only reason I saw this movie, or so I thought, was because Jason Barry (whose performance in Titanic and Circle of Friends I liked but wanted to see more) was in it. This was a great movie, considering I don't really like R rated movies. The plot moves along, and I understood it. The visual aspect was not anything to say "wow" about, but I enjoyed the movie. But it is certainly not a child's movie, and I was a bit shocked they would show three characters actually doing drugs. The language was a bit much, and the violence was slightly shocking, but in the end I think that it was a good movie. Especially the end scene, Denis Leary's character looking at slides, his cousin (Seamus O'Grady, played by Barry) in one of them. Very nice, but rather intense for my tastes.
Where the Heart Is (2000)
LOVELY LOVELY MOVIE!
I have seen this movie twice, and I still love it. I don't regularly like "chick flicks", even though I am really a chick (names don't tell you all about a person, eh?), but this one was a movie I could enjoy. The setting of the movie being a WalMart, I could relate to it. Young Novalee and Lexie, despite being unmarried, are motherly figures, going against stereotypes.
I enjoyed this film, all the characters (especially James Frain and Dylan Bruno) and was surprised when Sally Field showed up as the mother. Joan Cusack was wonderful as Ruth Meyers, and I will see this again and again until I can't take it anymore. No violence at all, the whole film relates to the characters' struggle. Lovely film, which I suggest all you people reading this to go and see.
