An exciting movie and it makes you think.
16 October 1999
This is a great movie. It has vitual action, like the Matrix, great acting and f/x, and makes you think at the end, like Contact. It is kind of like the Matrix, but not a ripoff. While it has similar elements, it's not about action or a quest like Neo's; it's mostly story-focussed, which is less common in movies these days. It also had exciting parts, but not just mindless action. If you like movies with interesting stories and twists plus action and suspense, rent this movie, but make sure the ending isn't given away.

The Matrix (1999)
Worth it just for the special effects
19 April 1999
The Matrix is just awesome. It's got a good plot too. You might be a little disappointed with the end, but I didn't have much of a problem with it. The special effects are amazing. It's nice to see Keanu Reeves in a good movie again. Laurence Fishbourne is cool as usual as Morpheus. Don't analyze the plot too much. Parts were dumb, but I didn't care. I was too excited too. DO NOT WAIT UNTIL VIDEO, THE EFFECTS ARE TOO GREAT. It would lose a lot on video. Just see it.

Great story, good cast, only for teens
28 March 1999
The story "Dangerous Liaisons" is a great one. And whether or not you could take this movie seriously, it shows. Kids would be grossed out by this movie or bored by it. Adults would have a similar reaction. By as teen movie, this works as well as Scream. And it's nice to see a "teen movie" with both a good story and minimal violence, unlike most horror movies that are released. This movie is a little trashy at times, but it shows in the end that the things that happened were not okay. It was not glamorized. It destroyed all the characters. Anyway, this a great movie, it has funny parts, and if you're a teen, go see it. Especially if you like Sarah Michelle Geller or Reese Witherspoon.

Too silly for adults, too crude for kids, good for teens
24 March 1999
The Wayans Brothers are fairly talented. Even if you dis-like this film, you have to admit it. I enjoyed this movie. It wasn't as good as "There's Something About Mary," but it had some good laughs. The humor is based on how dumb people act, like Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, except not as good and dealing with violence and "The 'Hood."

It's a silly movie, but if you're a teen, or on that level, and think teens in the 'Hood doing silly things is funny, you have to see it. It's not great, but it's not supposed to be.

The Producers (1967)
A funny funny Mel Brooks classic, rent it!!!
11 March 1999
It's not the greatest movie of all time, but man, I had so much fun watching this movie. It's almost as funny as Brooks's classics like Spaceballs and Blazing Saddles. It's refreshing to see a movie that's not so "politically correct" as all movies "must" be in the 90s. I couldn't stop laughing hearing, "It's springtime for Hitler and Germany." This movie is hilarious and, though not PC or in the best taste, rent it anyway, especially if you like Mel Brooks.

Very entertaining if you like Mel
1 March 1999
This dark Action flick is both funny and entertaining. Be careful: though this movie isn't nearly as gory as Saving Private Ryan, it's not for the very squeamish. Mel Gibson is great. He is funny and carries the movie. If you like Mel's shtick and he cracks you up, this movie will be very fun for you. If you're not a big Gibson fan, and don't like violence or action flicks, steer clear. I saw it twice and enjoyed it.

Good supporting performances and a great twist at the end make this a movie worth watching. Gibson's ability to seem like he has a smile through the whole movie (even when he gets beaten up), as Roger Ebert put it, is why this dark film is good. No one else could the unforgettable role of Porter except Mel Gibson.

An excellent movie, Hoffman was great
20 February 1999
Aside from a little more excitement, this movie couldn't have been better. It is a great story with a very interesting character, a white boy raised by Indians. Hoffman was his usual excellent self; he basically was the movie. Chief Dan George was also good. This really deserved to be on AFI's top 100 movies.

A Simple Plan (1998)
10/10
Good story, characters, acting, it has it all
20 January 1999
A Simple Plan is the great story of how two brothers and their friend find $4.4 million. They knew it would change their lives, but not like this. It drives them apart. Every main character is interesting and well played. The story is excellent. It's got enough jokes to keep it from being too heavy, but few enough so you still take it seriously. A Simple Plan won't get much Oscar attention, but it deserves nominations for Best Picture and its acting.

Under-rated surprise, excellent
9 January 1999
This movie surpassed my fairly high expectations. It's exciting, intriguing, spooky, smart, and fast. The surprises at the end are the best part. Fallen has a likeable cast and a great story. It kept my attention the whole way through. If like mystery or horror movies, I recommend it. For 1998, I put it second behind Saving Private Ryan.

Under-rated, one of the year's best
9 January 1999
It may not be perfect, but it's everything an action movie should be. Great characters (especially Keaton's great bad guy), explosions, chases, everything. So what if it's predictable. It's plot is better than you'd expect. Usually, the bad guy is just killed at the end. There is no other action movie like "Desperate Measures", because Andy Garcia protects the bag guy from the cops. If you like action movies, rent it. It's no best pic, but it's well worth watching.

A WWII film destined to be a classic
8 January 1999
The opening scenes of this movie are amazing. You see Omaha Beach battle and feel like you're really there. Spielberg's directing is outstanding and the acting is good too. "Private Ryan" captures what it's like to be in battle. The cinematography effectively showed things from the characters' perspectives. This movie deserves best pic more than any other I've seen this year. If can handle SERIOUS violence, don't miss it.

A great story of a romance between a cop and the criminal she must catch
5 January 1999
Great characters, a good story, and effective flashbacks make this movie very enjoyable and funny. I think anyone would enjoy and it's one of my favorite movies of the year. The showdown at the end is amusing and exciting.
